HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Pace struck first as Kyleigh Kearney scored her first goal of the season off a feed by Jenna McCrudden just over eight minutes in.
  • The Setters continued to maintain possession for the majority of the quarter and registered two more shots on goal.
  • Saint Anselm came alive in the second quarter by quickly earning a penalty corner. Senior Amanda Lewandowski (Franklin, Mass.) recorded two shots to help the Hawks generate some momentum.
  • 23:36 into the game, Smith got the Hawks on the board off a helper from senior Abby Breznyak (Oakland, Maine) to even the score at 1-1.
  • Pace attempted to respond after that with a handful of shots, but it was the Saint Anselm squad that took the lead late in the first half.  41 seconds before the halftime horn, Lewandowski ripped a shot into the cage to put the Hawks ahead, 2-1.
  • After a scoreless third quarter, action started to pick up again in the fourth. Three minutes into the final frame, the Setters equalized after a score by Ella Tamweber.
  • With the score at 2-2, things looked to be heading for overtime. However, Saint Anselm created one final push with under a minute to go. The Hawks earned a penalty corner and with 20 seconds remaining, Smith scored the game-winning goal and her second of the game to give Saint Anselm the road win.
