HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The first set provided an electric atmosphere in Stoutenburgh Gymnasium as the Hawks exploded to an 11-5 lead over the Ravens. Sophomore Hollyn Frano (Cave Creek, Arizona) recorded two kills while sophomore Sam Pila (Melbourne, Australia) grabbed a pair of service aces.
  • As the set continued, the Saint Anselm squad applied the pressure as freshman Hannah Storm (Swansea, Mass.) added her name to the kill and service ace stat line, helping the Hawks take a 19-12 advantage.
  • The Ravens managed to notch one more kill in the set, but dominance at the net from sophomore Melis Kocak (East Greenwich, RI) and a pair of aces from Frano ended the set in favor of the home team.
  • In the second set, Saint Anselm continued to set the tone and took a 5-1 advantage behind a service ace from graduate student Jada Burdier (Haverhill, Mass.) and a handful of Franklin Pierce errors, but the visitors jumped back into the set after a few errors by Saint Anselm.
  • Later in the set, junior Skylar Ryan (Channahon, Ill.) helped the Hawks take back the momentum with a highlight-worthy kill off a feed from junior Abigail Macalaguim (Chula Vista, Calif.), bringing the Hawks back up by six points.
  • The Ravens answered with back-to-back points late to keep the set alive, but an ace by sophomore Madeline Burke (Lake George, N.Y.) and a kill by freshman Taylor Lacerda (Franklin, Mass.) allowed the Hawks to lead two sets to none.
  • Saint Anselm opened the third set on a 5-1 run off of three service aces from Macalaguim, but Franklin Pierce dug in and found a response, capitalizing off of errors from the home team.
  • Ryan once again came into play for the Hawks, tabbing two quick service aces before the Ravens went on a run to tie the set at 10 points apiece.
  • After that, Franklin Pierce produced a 7-3 scoring run to take a 17-13 lead behind a Kennedie Manning kill along with a pair of kills from Katholiki Koukia.
  • The Hawks attempted a comeback in the third with sophomore Emma Carolan (North Babylon, NY) coming in and registering her first collegiate kill to bring the home team within five points, but a few more errors helped Franklin Pierce extend the match with a 25-19 third-set win.
  • The Hawks began the fourth set the same way as before, taking a 5-2 advantage behind three kills from Frano. The Hawks then generated a 6-2 run with kills from Kocak, Lacerda, and Pila to increase their lead to 15-8.
  • Franklin Pierce made a last chance effort to stay in the match with a kill from Manning to bring it within six points, but kills from Pila and Storm gave Saint Anselm match point. Frano completed the task for the Hawks by earning her final kill of the evening to finish off the fourth set, 25-17.
