HOW IT HAPPENED
  • In the first set, the Tigers and Hawks battled back and forth before Saint Anselm jumped out to a 9-6 advantage behind four kills from sophomore Hollyn Frano (Cave Creek, Ariz.).
  • Holy Family responded with a kill from Ava Kidd, but Saint Anselm freshman Hannah Storm (Swansea, Mass.) silenced the Tigers with an aggressive kill of her own.
  • Saint Anselm went on to make quick work of the set with Frano and sophomore Melis Kocak (East Greenwich, RI) exchanging kills that lead to the 25-16 win.
  • The second set began with the teams exchanging roles as Holy Family took an early 8-3 lead. Saint Anselm rattled off a 5-0 run that was highlighted by three service aces and a kill by sophomore Sam Pila (Melbourne, Australia).
  • Later in the second set, the Hawks started to pull away and capitalized off of several Tigers errors. That was paired with another service ace from Pila and another kill from Kocak.
  • After gaining a five-point lead, the Saint Anselm squad did not look back. Frano and Kocak combined for the last few Hawks points, which led to the second set win, 25-19.
  • The teams began the third set in a deadlock with points going back and forth. The Hawks found their first bit of breathing room as sophomore Miia Dembski (Buffalo, N.Y.) and freshman Taylor Lacerda (Franklin, Mass.) notched back-to-back kills, edging the score to 8-5.
  • Holy Family answered with a 5-0 run in response with kills from Morgan Steck and a service ace from Shelby Kinzer.
  • Despite the scoring streak by the Tigers, the Hawks eventually led, 19-14, late in the set thanks to another Kocak kill along with a Frano service ace.
  • The Tigers continued to make the Hawks work, bringing the score within a point at 21-20 after a pair of service aces from Cadence Palmer.
  • The third set finished in exciting fashion as the teams were all knotted up, 24-24. Morgan Marziani-Radomski helped Holy Family pick up their first set win of the evening with a pair of service aces that helped the Tigers extend the match.
  • Holy Family continued to put up a fight in the fourth set and took an early 7-4 advantage off of a kill from Kinzer and multiple errors from the Hawks.
  • Frano replied for Saint Anselm with a kill of her own before Holy Family went on a 4-2 run to take a 13-9 advantage.
  • The Tigers found their biggest lead halfway through the set with a 17-12 lead, which was halted by another Frano kill. Pila then served up two straight aces to tie the game at 18-18.
  • Holy Family put their foot on the pedal to close out the fourth set, outscoring the Hawks 7-3 to even the match at 2-2 and force a first-to-15 fifth set.
  • In the final set of the match, the Hawks ultimately took care of business thanks to a 7-3 explosion of a start. The Tigers attempted to retaliate, but some costly errors helped the Hawks earn the win.
