HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Saint Anselm jumped all over Wilmington in the opening 15 minutes of the match. Less than five minutes in, senior Sydney Wnek (Haverhill, Mass.) attempted the first shot on goal, which forced an early save out of Arianna Myers.
  • Senior Allison Silverstein (Concord, N.H.) fired another shot on frame a few minutes later, but Myers was good for another stop.
  • The next seven shots from the Hawks were all off target, but they kept up their offensive pressure throughout the first half.
  • In the 38th minute, junior Nina Muir (Southington, Conn.) came close to scoring the game's first goal, but her shot hit off the right post.
  • With just over five minutes remaining in the first half, Wilmington earned a corner kick. The ball was sent into the box and found Sharon Freire Omonigho, whose one-time shot bounced into the back of the net, which made it 1-0. It was the first shot of the game for the Wildcats.
  • In the final five minutes of the opening half, Saint Anselm responded well with significant offensive pressure, but three shots on goal were all denied by Myers to keep it 1-0 at halftime.
  • The Hawks struggled to create many scoring chances in the second half, but did get two good looks in the final 20 minutes. Fifth-year Tara McCleary (Quincy, Mass.) and junior Zarina Pinto (Groveland, Mass.) both attempted shots on goal, but Wildcats reserve goalkeeper Mio Nakajima kept the home team off the scoreboard with a pair of saves.
  • Saint Anselm also had three corner kicks late in the game, but could not find the back of the net as Wilmington held on for the 1-0 victory.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Saint Anselm held a 17-3 lead in total shot attempts and an 7-2 edge in shots on goal.
  • The Hawks tripled the Wildcats in corner kicks in the match, 6-2. The home team committed nine fouls in the game, while the visitors committed 12 and were issued the only yellow card.
  • Hawks sophomore goalkeeper Maggie Warner (Saugus, Mass.) made one save for the Hawks in the loss. Two Wildcats goalkeepers combined for a seven-save shutout.
  • This marked the third all-time meeting between these two programs. Saint Anselm is now 1-1-1 against Wilmington in the series.
