Location: Miami Shores, Fla. (Buccaneer Field)
Date: Sunday, September 15, 2024

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Barry started the match on the front foot and controlled most of the possession early. Lucas Silva attempted the first shot of the game for the Buccaneers, but it missed the target to the left.
  • Saint Anselm senior Michael Provenzano (Stratham, N.H.) attempted the first shot of the game for the Hawks, but his shot was also wide to the left of goal.
  • At the 20 minute mark of the first half, Barry's Joram Bogers fired a shot that hit the cross bar and went out of play.
  • In the 25th minute, Barry got on the board with a goal by Juan Pablo Gorin. Gorin tracked down a ball headed towards the left corner. He took a touch around Saint Anselm junior goalkeeper David Hood (Manchester, N.H.) and passed it into an open net to give the Buccaneers a 1-0 advantage.
  • Saint Anselm responded by changing their formation, leading to a lot more time spent with the ball. In the 30th minute, senior Aiden Lehane (Assonet, Mass.) tested the Barry defense and registered a shot on goal, causing Buccaneers goalkeeper Rafael Furlani to make his first save.
  • Hood made another save for the Hawks with just under 10 minutes remaining in the half, which went on to end with a 1-0 score.
  • Saint Anselm earned the first two quality chances of the second half. A few minutes in, fifth-year Zach Verow (Bedford, N.H.) chased down a bouncing through ball in the box. With Furlani coming off his line, Verow attempted to float the ball up and over him, but Furlani got his finger tips on it to alter the shot and keep his team in front.
  • Just over a minute later, Lehane chased down the ball on the left wing and served it into the box. Senior Samuel Assantha (Bukavu, Democratic Republic of the Congo) flicked it onto Dresens, who smashed a left-footed volley into the roof of the net to tie the score at 1-1.
  • The celebrations were short-lived for the Hawks, as the Buccaneers responded in quick fashion. Barry's Scott Neil beat a defender one-on-one and dribbled along the end line. He cut back a pass that found Aidan Gannes, who's one-timer reached the back of the net just three minutes after the game-tying goal by Saint Anselm to make it 2-1.
  • In the 68th minute, senior Andrew Kubinski (Norton, Mass.) dribbled down the left wing and played a low cross that found senior Caden Leader (Durham, N.H.) at the top of the box, but his shot deflected and made its way into the hands of Furlani.
  • At the 68:41 mark, the game was halted due to lightning in the area. After nearly a two hour delay, the game was resumed.
  • Barry scored just over a minute after the game was resumed as Stefan Momcilovic made it 3-1.
  • The match was ended in the 73rd minute due to another lightning strike and Barry earned the win.
