NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. - Five student-athletes from the Saint Anselm College women's lacrosse team earned placement on the 2024 Division II Academic Honor Roll, the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) announced on Wednesday.
The IWLCA honored 524 student-athletes from 72 different institutions on this year's Academic Honor Roll. To be eligible for this honor, student-athletes must be a junior, senior, or graduate student and have earned a cumulative academic GPA of 3.50 or greater.
Seniors
Erin Doyle (Weymouth, Mass.) and
Isabella Stuzynski (Bedford, Mass.) along with juniors
Jaycie Balboni (Billerica, Mass.),
Abigail Christmas (Elmira, N.Y.), and
Alex McGrath (Natick, Mass.) made up the group of Hawks who were recognized. Doyle and Stuzynski, who receive this national academic honor for the second time each, were both Nursing majors and minored in Spanish before graduating this past May. Balboni currently majors in Biology, Christmas in Health Science, and McGrath in Business Administration and Marketing. It is the first time that these three junior student-athletes have received this academic distinction.
Doyle, a Northeast-10 (NE10) All-Conference First Team and IWLCA All-East Region First Team selection, had an impressive senior season on the Hilltop. A defender and co-captain for the Hawks, Doyle started in all 18 games in 2024 and led the squad with 67 draw controls, a figure that was tied for 10th-most in the NE10. Doyle also led Saint Anselm and was fourth in the conference with a career-best 32 caused turnovers while also finishing second on the team and sixth in the league with 39 ground balls. On April 30 at the College of Saint Rose, Doyle set a new career-high with 16 draw controls, a figure that is the second-most in a single game in program history. Her 162 career draw controls is tied for fourth all-time in the program record book, while her 72 caused turnovers ranks second.
Stuzynski was an All-NE10 Third Team pick and set career-highs in goals and assists in 2024. The senior attacker scored 31 goals and added a team-high 33 assists for 64 points. Her 33 helpers were fifth-most in the NE10 and were also the third-most in a single season in program history. Stuzynski recorded 10 games with two or more goals and had a pair of four-assist performances, headlined by a career-high eight-point game against Saint Michael's College on March 2.
Balboni played in 11 games for the Hawks in 2024, the most in her three-year career thus far. The attacker contributed five goals on the season including her first career score at American International College on March 23. Â
Christmas had a standout junior season in the midfield for Saint Anselm, starting in all 17 games she appeared in. She scored 12 goals, a career-high, and added an assist in 2024 and recorded a pair of mult-goal games against the University of New Haven.
McGrath started in 13 out of her 18 games played as a defender in the spring, which were both new career-bests. She caused nine turnovers and scooped up 11 ground balls on the season.
Saint Anselm concluded its 2024 campaign after a loss in the NE10 Championship Quarterfinals. The Hawks, who clinched the NE10 postseason for the second straight year, ended the season with an 11-7 overall record and a 7-4 mark in conference play while finishing as the No. 22 team in the final IWLCA Division II national poll.
