HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Saint Anselm put two runners aboard in the top of the first inning after drawing a pair of walks, but could not get either to cross home plate.
  • Southern New Hampshire had a monster bottom half of the inning at the dish, recording five runs on four hits. The Penmen put together a pair of RBI singles along with an RBI double by Kyle Lavigne to go ahead, 5-0.
  • In the bottom of the second, Jake Risedorf smashed a solo home run over the right field fence. Harry Vargas Segura then tripled and scored on a sacrifice fly by Jake Pisano as the Penmen increased their advantage to seven runs.
  • Senior Zack Clough (Newbury, Mass.) singled up the middle followed by a double by senior Nolan Elmore (Brentwood, N.H.) to put runners in scoring position with one out in the top of the third. However, the Hawks stranded both runners after two quick outs ended the inning.
  • Junior Adam Betty (Lowell, Mass.) entered the game to start the bottom of the third, replacing freshman starter Andrew Chenevert (Dracut, Mass.). Betty allowed a single and another batter got on after a fielding error by the Hawks, but the junior struck out three Penmen batters to get out of the jam.
  • Saint Anselm's offense woke up in the top of the sixth. Freshman Mavrick Bourdeau (Billerica, Mass.) led off the inning with a single and junior Daniel Scolaro (Quincy, Mass.) reached on a fielder's choice to put two on with nobody out. After one Hawk popped out to second, sophomore Ben Rose (Webster, N.H.) came up to the plate and launched a three-run homer to left center to make it a 7-3 game.
  • Southern New Hampshire responded with two runs in the bottom of the sixth. Two Penmen batters reached base and Pisano brought both home with a base hit through the left side to put his team back ahead by six.
  • The Penmen put the game away with a four-run bottom of the eighth inning. Jorge Burgos plated two with a single through the left side and the next batter, Nater Wachter, then drilled a two-run home run out to right center as Southern New Hampshire increased their lead to 13-3.
  • The Hawks recorded a consolation run in the top of the ninth courtesy of an RBI single by freshman Brendan Gonzalez (Mechanicville, N.Y.), but ultimately fell by a final score of 13-4.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Saint Anselm finished with three runs on seven hits and committed four errors in the game. Southern New Hampshire's 13 runs came on 14 hits. The Penmen committed two errors in the game and left eight runners on base, while the Hawks stranded eight as well.
  • Elmore led the Hawks with a two-hit day to go along with a walk. Rose went 1-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs, while Bourdeau, Clough, Gonzalez and freshman Declan Ryan (Hooksett, N.H.) recorded a base hit apiece in the loss.
  • Chenevert started and lasted two full innings, allowing six hits and three earned runs while striking out three. Betty tossed three full innings of scoreless ball in relief, surrendering a pair of hits while punching out four. Three Hawks combined to toss the last four innings and combined to give up the final six Penmen runs.
  • Saint Anselm falls to 34-66 in the all-time series against Southern New Hampshire dating back to 1982.
