Sophomore Shea Howrigan (Enosburg Falls, Vt.) then drove in two with a single to right field to give the Hawks the early lead.
- Adelphi quickly got a run back in the bottom half of the inning courtesy of an infield single with two men on followed by a throwing error by Saint Anselm, which cut the lead in half.
- Both sides went down in order in the second inning. Hawks starting pitcher Matthew Michel (Haverhill, Mass.) retired the side with a strikeout to end the frame with the score at 2-1.
- Saint Anselm added two more runs in the top of the third. The Hawks put a runner on second base with nobody out and Elmore drove him home with a double to center. Elmore later scored on a groundout and Saint Anselm led, 4-1.
- Joe Pellegrino led off the bottom of the fourth with a solo home run for the Panthers, who added another on a sacrifice fly that same inning to make it a 4-3 game.
- With two outs and runners on first and second in the top of the fifth inning, Howrigan came up clutch again with another RBI base hit, driving in Elmore to help the Hawks increase their lead back up to two runs.
- Adelphi got a rally of their own started in the bottom of the fifth, recording back-to-back singles with two outs. Pellegrino then stepped up to the plate and mashed a three-run shot to left to give his team their first lead of the day, 6-5.
- A solo home run by Michael Robinson in the bottom of the sixth made it a 7-5 game. Junior Adam Betty (Lowell, Mass.) replaced Michel after that and sat down six of the next seven Adelphi hitters.
- The hosts exploded for a six-run bottom of the eighth to blow the game wide open by obtaining a 13-5 advantage. Robinson launched his second homer of the afternoon, a two run shot out to right center. Anthony Rigogliosi later drove two in on an RBI double and two more runs scored for the Panthers following errors in the field committed by the Hawks.
