HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Freshman Mavrick Bourdeau (Billerica, Mass.) opened the game in the top of the first inning with a single to right field. After advancing to second on a wild pitch, Bourdeau came home on an error to give Saint Anselm an early 1-0 lead.
  • Saint Rose quickly tied the score up in the bottom half of the inning. Vince Venditti led off with a double, got to third on a past ball, and came home after a sacrifice fly to make it 1-1.
  • The Golden Knights then put together a seven-run inning with the bats to break the game wide open. Saint Rose record consecutive RBI doubles in their massive five-hit inning as they went ahead, 8-1.
  • In the bottom of the third, James Ward doubled to center to bring home his third RBI of the game for Saint Rose to make it a 9-1 game. Saint Anselm was shut down offensively through the fifth inning, but freshman pitcher Quinn MacDonald (Kennebunkport, Maine) did well to keep Saint Rose at bay, holding the Golden Knights without a run from the fourth through the sixth.
  • The Hawks started to spark a comeback in the top of the sixth inning. Sophomore Brendan Harris (Altamont, N.Y.) and freshman Shea Howrigan (Enosburg Falls, Vt.) both singled and junior Daniel Scolaro (Quincy, Mass.) walked to load the bases with just one out. The next batter was Brune, who walked as well to score a run, and Bourdeau then singled to center for his second hit of the game to make it 9-3, Golden Knights.
  • Saint Anselm was not done there and plated two more runs in the same inning. Senior Aidan Dow (Lynn, Mass.) drove in a run after grounding out to first and senior Zack Clough (Newbury, Mass.) brought another home on an RBI single to make it just a four-run deficit.
  • Venditti helped Saint Rose get a run back in the seventh with an RBI single, but Brune launched his first career home run in the top of the eighth to keep it a four-run game.
  • The Golden Knights scored two more runs in the bottom of the eighth and the Hawks could not rally in the ninth as the game ended with a final score of 12-6.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Saint Anselm recorded six runs on seven hits and left seven runners on base. Saint Rose finished with 12 runs on 14 hits and left eight runners stranded. The Hawks committed four errors in the game, while the Golden Knights had just one.

  • Vaughan went 1.2 innings on the mound, allowing seven hits and five earned runs while striking out a batter. MacDonald went five innings, allowing four hits, one earned run, and striking out a pair. Senior Roman Ercoli (Concord, Mass.) pitched the final inning for Saint Anselm and allowed one hit and struck out one without surrendering a run.
