HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Saint Anselm started out well with a strong first inning at the plate. Bourdeau led off with a double, his fourth in the last three games, and Dow followed that up with a single. With runners on the corners, senior Zack Clough (Newbury, Mass.) put one in play down the right field line to score Bourdeau and give the Hawks an early 1-0 lead.
- With two runners on and two outs in the same inning, freshman Declan Ryan (Hooksett, N.H.) stepped into the batter's box and delivered an RBI single through the left side to score Dow and double Saint Anselm's lead.
- That lead, however, was short-lived, as Barton responded with three runs in the bottom of the first to take a 3-2 lead. Chase Waddell smoked a two-run double down the right field line during that frame for the Bulldogs.
- In the bottom of the second, Barton put three more runs up on the board to go ahead, 6-2. Luis Sauri provided his team with a double to left field that brought two runners home.
- The bats for Saint Anselm went quiet from the second through the fourth innings, with the Hawks being held scoreless. Barton extended its advantage to 11-2 in the bottom of the fourth with the help of another two-RBI double, this time off the bat of Salvatore Laimo.
- The Hawks got their third run of the game in the top of the fifth. Bourdeau and Dow opened the inning with a single apiece. After Clough grounded into a double play that pushed Bourdeau over to third, senior Nolan Elmore (Brentwood, N.H.) singled to right to make it 11-3, Bulldogs.
- Barton blew the game open in the bottom of the fifth inning with five more runs. Evan Harding drove in two runs with a double to left and the next batter, Laimo, parked a three-run home run that made it 16-3.
- The Bulldogs went on to score three more in the sixth and the Hawks were held scoreless for the remainder of the game, resulting in a 19-3 final score.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Saint Anselm scored three runs on 11 hits and committed five errors. Barton scored 19 runs on 18 hits and had one error. The Hawks left six runners on base, while the Bulldogs left 10 runners stranded.
- Dow led the Saint Anselm offense with three singles, while Bourdeau went 2-4 with a single and a double. Bourdeau scored twice while Dow recorded the only other run. Clough, Elmore, and Ryan each had an RBI in the loss. Junior Daniel Scolaro (Quincy, Mass.) also had two hits for the Hawks.
- Senior Will Hunter (Middleton, Mass.) started on the mound for Saint Anselm, going two innings and allowing three earned runs on seven hits. Freshman Cooper Hagen (Grand Rapids, Mich.) came on in relief and tossed 1.1 innings, giving up four earned runs while striking out two.
