HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Despite a slow start, consecutive three-pointers from Morissette and junior Zac Taylor (Victoria, Australia), both assisted by fifth-year Tyler Arbuckle (Bristol, Conn.), gave Saint Anselm their first lead of the game at 10-9 six minutes into the game.
- Morissette then rattled off seven straight points for the Hawks including another three. Arbuckle later drained a triple of his own and senior Matt Becker (Fairfield, Conn.) joined in on the party from behind the arc on the next possession as Saint Anselm regained a 23-21 advantage with 7:33 to play in the half.
- With under two minutes left in the half, Arbuckle knocked down another three-ball, while a fastbreak layup from McCarthy with eight seconds left gave the Hawks a two-point lead, 36-34, at the break.
- Saint Anselm was firing on all cylinders to begin the second half. McCarthy scored twice more from within the paint while Taylor cashed in again from deep to extend the Hawks' lead to 12 points. Five minutes into the second, McCarthy got out in transition and finished off a slam dunk to cap off a 16-1 run and make it 51-35, Saint Anselm.
- After Franklin Pierce responded with their first basket of the half, a three-pointer five and a half minutes in, the Hawks orchestrated a 19-0 scoring run to make it 71-40 and put the game out of reach. Taylor scored seven points over that five minute span, while Morissette knocked down two more threes.
- With a 30-point lead and five minutes remaining, the Hawks emptied the bench and would eventually win, 85-57.
