HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Junior Max Burum (Marshfield, Mass.) fired the first shot on target for the Hawks to force an early save from the Ravens goalie Jeremy Connor. Less than four minutes into the game, Franklin Pierce took a 1-0 edge following a costly mistake in front of the net. Saint Anselm fought off a flurry of shots with freshman goalie Cam Carroll (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) posting six saves.
  • The Hawks gained traction on the attack firing nine consecutive shot attempts featuring a pair of shots from seniors Alec Grace (Laguna Hills, Calif.) and Liam Lyons (Gloucester, Mass.). Both teams continued to exchange shots towards the end of the period until junior Luke Mix (Winchester, Mass.) dished a centering pass to freshman Patrick DeMarinis (Manasquan, N.J.) who tapped the puck into the back of the net before the break to even the score at 1-1.
  • Lyons quickly answers for the Hawks just 42 seconds into the second period by blasting the puck into the top left shelf off the helper from Grace to put Saint Anselm ahead 2-1. The Hawks kept pushing their attack outshooting the Ravens 12-6 approaching the midway point of the period featuring four stops by Carroll and two blocks by junior Will van der Veen (Duxbury, Mass.).
  • At the 9:46 mark, Burum wristed a quick shot in front of Franklin Pierce's net to extend Saint Anselm's led to 3-1. The Hawks second-period dominance continued scoring two more goals in the final five minutes of the period, respectively. Sophomore Luke Linart (Holland, Mich) notched his first goal of the night at the 15:47 mark followed a few minutes later by Burum sneaking the puck around Connor for his second score of the night to make it 5-1 Hawks heading into the third period.
  • Once again, Saint Anselm came out strong to start the final period of the game as Linart netted his second goal with sophomore Alex Hoitt (East Bridgewater, Mass.) and Burum credited with the assists. About 16 seconds later, junior Hunter Brackett (Harwick Port, Mass.) notched a score at the 1:06 mark to extend Saint Anselm's lead to 7-1.
  • Franklin Pierce immediately went on the man advantage, their second power play of the night, but only produced one shot that Carroll was able to save. The Ravens kept battling after the Hawks killed their power play, outshooting Saint Anselm 6-2 before finding the back of the net at the 7:06 mark to make it 7-2.
  • Shortly after Saint Anselm fought off a five-minute Franklin Pierce power play, senior Will Christensen (Ridgefield, Conn.) netted his fifth score of the season to seal Saint Anselm's ticket to the semifinal round defeating the Ravens by a final score of 8-2.
