HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Scoring the first basket of the game on Saint Anselm's first offensive possession was Morissette. Junior Zac Taylor (Victoria, Australia) connected on a three-pointer a couple minutes later as the Hawks took an early 5-3 lead.
  • Fifth-year Tyler Arbuckle (Bristol, Conn.) scored the next eight points for Saint Anselm by nailing midrange field goals on four straight possessions. That catapulted the Hawks to a 13-3 advantage and forced an Adelphi timeout five minutes into the game.
  • The Panthers responded with a 17-6 scoring run to take the lead, 20-19. Adelphi extended that lead to 24-20 with 6:50 left in the first half, but five straight points including a three by Morissette gave the Hawks the lead right back.
  • Two baskets from senior Josh Menard (Higganum, Conn.) allowed Saint Anselm to maintain their lead, 31-29, at halftime.
  • Junior Sean McCarthy (Cork, Ireland) scored nine points in the first six minutes of the second half, but Adelphi quickly tied the score back up and eventually retook the lead after an and-one by Elijah Lewis. Two threes by Seth Brown and another basket from Lewis allowed the Panthers to extend their lead to 10 points, their largest of the game, with 8:21 to play.
  • Ending a three minute scoreless span for the Hawks was Morissette, who cashed in on another shot from long distance to trim the deficit back down to seven points. The sophomore knocked down another triple two minutes later to make it just a two-point Adelphi lead.
  • After a layup by Mason Jackson for Adelphi made it 61-57 with 5:20 remaining, Saint Anselm ended the game on a 10-1 scoring run. The Hawks defense held the Panthers to just one point in the final five minutes and four points over the final eight minutes.
  • Morissette scored seven of Saint Anselm's final 10 points including a three to go up by four points with a minute to go. Arbuckle knocked down a pair at the line to seal the victory.
