Mavrick Bourdeau (Billerica, Mass.) all homered for the first time in their collegiate careers as the Saint Anselm College baseball team won the second game, 10-0, to split Saturday's doubleheader against Southern Connecticut State University.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 1):
- Senior Matthew Michel (Haverhill, Mass.) toed the rubber to start the first game of Saturday's doubleheader. Michel pitched a shutout through the first two innings, but got into some trouble in the third. Southern Connecticut State doubled and drove in a run, but Saint Anselm was able to strand two and get out of trouble down just 1-0.
- In the bottom of the third, the Hawks responded by immediately loading the bases with nobody out courtesy of two walks and an error. After two straight strikeouts, senior Nolan Elmore (Brentwood, N.H.) walked in a run to tie the score at 1-1.
- There was just one combined hit for the next four innings and neither team scored by the end of the seventh, which sent the game into extra innings.
- The score remained tied as both teams went down in order during the eighth inning. In the top of the ninth, the Owls blasted a two-run home run as part of a three-run inning to take a commanding 4-1 lead. The Hawks were unable to answer in the bottom half of the ninth and would fall by that same scoreline.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS (GAME 1):
- Saint Anselm ended the game with one run on two hits and had two errors in the game. Southern Connecticut State recorded four runs on five hits and had one error. The Hawks left six runners on base, while the Owls stranded five baserunners.
- For the Hawks, Elmore went 1-2 at the plate with an RBI and a walk. Senior Richie Williams (Georgetown, Mass.) recorded the only other hit for Saint Anselm.
- Michel went five innings on the mound and gave up just one earned run on four hits while walking one and striking out two. Junior Marko Gibbons (Delmar. N.Y.) came on in relief and pitched four innings, giving up one hit and two earned runs while striking out six in the loss.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 2):
- After allowing runners on second and third in the top of the first inning, junior pitcher Jared Reminder (Warwick, R.I.) got the next three Southern Connecticut State batters to fly out to get out of the jam.
- Saint Anselm got on the board in the bottom of the second inning. Sophomore catcher Steven Betty (Lowell, Mass.) hit a single into right center that scored junior Jax Budgell (Newburyport, Mass.) to put the Hawks ahead, 1-0.
- The Hawks put up two more runs in the bottom of the third. Dow drove in the first run of his career on a single to right that scored senior Zack Clough (Newbury, Mass.). Later that inning with the bases loaded, Budgell walked which scored Dow to make it 3-0.
- A massive fourth inning allowed Saint Anselm to take a commanding 7-0 lead. The Hawks loaded the bases with nobody out after a walk and two singles to start the inning. Clough drove a sacrifice fly out to left field to score the fourth run of the game. The next batter was Dow, who stepped up to the plate with two men on and clobbered his first collegiate home run.
- After Reminder pitched his way out of trouble again in the fifth to keep the shutout intact, Bourdeau smashed a two-run shot to center, the first of his collegiate career, to make it 9-0, Saint Anselm.
- Rose joined in on the home run festivities by launching the first of his career over the left field wall in the sixth to put the exclamation point on Saint Anselm's 10-0 win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS (GAME 2):
- Saint Anselm finished the game with 10 runs on nine hits and committed one error. Southern Connecticut State was shutout with five hits and no errors. The Owls left seven runners on base, while the Hawks left five runners stranded.
- Dow went 2-4 at the plate with a home run and four RBIs. The senior recorded the first home run, RBI, and multi-hit game of his career.
- Bourdeau and Rose also homered for the first time in their careers. Freshman Shea Howrigan (Enosburg Falls, Vt.) registered his first multi-hit game for the Hawks as well. Bourdeau, Dow, and Howrigan all scored two runs in the game.
- Reminder pitched five scoreless innings and gave up just four hits while striking out two. Senior Adam Betty (Lowell, Mass.) came on in relief and pitched two innings, giving up one hit and striking out one to earn the save and preserve the shutout.
