HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Forbes got Saint Anselm out to a hot start by scoring four quick points on the first two Hawks offensive possessions. A long two-point jumper by fifth-year Liv Robles (Wallingford, Conn.) the next trip down the court gave Saint Anselm a 6-0 lead and forced a timeout by Saint Rose two minutes into the game.
  • With under four minutes left in the first quarter, Forbes and Robles knocked down back-to-back triples to make it 15-7, Hawks. Saint Anselm closed the quarter with a three-pointer by senior Alexa Quirolo (New Rochelle, N.Y.) and a buzzer-beating field goal by junior Melanie Hoyt (Stamford, N.Y.), which gave them a 21-11 lead going into the second.
  • Robles converted on another midrange jumper at the beginning of the quarter, but the Hawks were held scoreless for the next five minutes. The Golden Knights, as a result, went on a 14-2 run and took their first lead of the game, 25-23.
  • Ending the drought for Saint Anselm was Forbes, who drilled another three with under two minutes to play in the half. Hoyt made a layup shortly after, but Aniya Perry-McDonald made a shot right before the buzzer for Saint Rose, who held a 29-28 lead at halftime.
  • To start the third quarter, Forbes was able to score inside the paint to help her team retake the lead, but the Hawks were held without a point for another five minute period. The Golden Knights were only able to score six points during that span and led by just five points, 35-30.
  • Junior Katie Lemanski (Haymarket, Va.) scored her first points of the game on a midrange jumper to end the scoreless streak for Saint Anselm. Forbes and Robles each scored two more points to end the third quarter with Saint Anselm trailing, 39-36.
  • A triple by Payton Graber early in the fourth helped Saint Rose increase their lead to seven points with the score at 44-37 and 8:13 to play. The Golden Knights kept the margin at seven or eight points for the majority of the fourth and eventually increased their lead to 10 points with just over three minutes left.
  • Forbes and Lemanski knocked down late threes, but the Hawks could not complete the comeback and the Golden Knights held on for the win.
