HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Senior Melanie Hoyt (Stamford, N.Y.) opened the scoring on Saturday three minutes into action off of a jump shot in the paint. The two teams would struggle to put up points in the first 10-minutes of play as the score at the end of the first quarter was just 11-9 in favor of the Hawks, as freshman Avery Romps (Greenland, N.H.) tallied a triple to give them the lead.
- The home team would make their first run through the second quarter. A triple from Kaitlin O'Connell would flip the lead in favor of the Panthers, 14-11, but an Addisen Sulikowski (Saco, Maine) jump shot would temporarily flip momentum. Tatum Forbes (Pawtucket, R.I.) took her turn scoring a pair of nice pull-up jump shots in the paint, then it was all the home team. The Panthers would explode to a 10-point lead going into halftime.
- Coming out of halftime Sulikowski would continue to find success capitalizing off of a Forbes steal to bring the Hawks within eight. The home team would find their biggest lead in the third quarter at 13 as Christina Sanchez tabbed a bucket from deep. Within just over three minutes remaining in the third quarter Anna Nelson (Gorham, Maine) would attempt to bring the lead back under ten, but a good free throw from Isabella Asencio kept the led at 11 going into the fourth.
- Saint Anselm would cut the lead to eight halfway through the quarter as Forbes scored off of an offensive rebound, but strong shooting from beyond the arch kept the Panthers ahead by double digits. A fast break triple from Sulikowski with 1:21 left to go would ignite late hope for the Hawks, but the clock would run out before the comeback was completed.
