AMHERST, N.Y. – Five Hawks recorded double figures in the scoring column, led by senior
Sean McCarthy (Cork, Ireland) who had 20, as the Saint Anselm College men's basketball team cruised to a 103-69 win over Roberts Wesleyan in their season opener on Friday evening at the East Region Challenge presented by WNY Knee and Orthopedic Surgery PC.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Saint Anselm had an efficient game shooting by going 38 for 65 from the floor (58.5 percent). Roberts Wesleyan struggled from the field by shooting 26 for 73 (35.6 percent).
- The Hawks also had a great day from long distance, making 14 of their 29 three-pointers (48.3 percent). The Redhawks made just eight of their 29 threes (27.6 percent).
- Saint Anselm had a tough game at the free throw line, making just 13 of their 23 free throw attempts (56.5 percent). Roberts Wesleyan made nine of their 12 shots at the stripe (75.0 percent).
- The Hawks dominated the battle on the boards with 50 rebounds compared to 33 rebounds by the Redhawks. They also out-rebounded their opposition on the offensive glass, 11-10.
- Saint Anselm held a 48-34 advantage in points in the paint and a 14-10 edge in second chance points. The Hawks made it a point to get out in transition as well and outscored Roberts Wesleyan in fastbreak points, 27-10.
- The Hawks' bench had a strong game and outscored the Redhawks' reserves, 46-29. 11 different players scored at least one field goal for Saint Anselm, who had eight players score six or more points in the contest.
- The fast pace of play led to a lot of turnovers as the Hawks committed 21 and the Redhawks committed 14. Off of those turnovers, Roberts Wesleyan finished with 20 points and Saint Anselm finished with 17 points.
- Defensively, Saint Anselm had five steals and seven blocks compared to eight steals and two blocks by Roberts Wesleyan.
- McCarthy led Saint Anselm with a double-double courtesy of a game-high 20 points (7-12 FG, 6-10 FT) and 11 rebounds. Redshirt freshman Greg Cantwell (Enfield, Conn.) added 14 points and made four three-pointers in his Hawks debut.
- Senior Zac Taylor (Victoria, Australia), junior Josh Morissette (Exeter, N.H.), and freshman Erik Oliver-Bush (Trenton, N.J.) each finished with 13 points, with Morissette knocking down three triples and grabbing nine boards.
- Malik Brooks led Roberts Wesleyan with 19 points (6-18 FG, 2-7 3PT, 5-6 FT) to go along with a team-high seven rebounds.
- This marked the second all-time meeting between these two programs. Saint Anselm improves to 2-0 overall against Roberts Wesleyan.
