HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The first quarter began in favor of the home team as the Penmen of Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) registered the first two shots of the evening match up. Zoe Demers took the first, on target, but was turned away by senior keeper Sidney Falterer (Fairfield, Conn.). Annemartine Christis would tab the next but would miss just wide of the cage. In the 10th minute the Saint Anselm squad would earn the first penalty corner of the competition. Senior Amanda Lewandowski (Franklin, Mass.) would step in the take the corner. A set play from the corner would feed senior Chloe Kapsambelis (Merrimack, N.H.) who send a pass back to Lewandowski would give the Hawks their 1-0 lead to end the quarter.
  • In the second quarter the Hawks would quickly pick up a green card on Meghan Smith (Uxbridge, Mass.), but would survive the disadvantage. SNHU would find themselves in the penalty zone next, registering two green cards in the 22nd and 25th minute of the game. The remainder of the period would go in favor of the Hawks as they would tally five shots and take three penalty corners against the Penmen, but strong goalkeeping from Emma Peeters would keep the game within one score going into half-time.
  • The third quarter turned in favor of Saint Anselm just before the fifth minute, as fifth year senior Maddie Davis (Exeter, N.H.) added her name to the box score scoring off of a feed from senior Ava Rayfield (Dover-Foxcroft, Maine.). The next ten-minutes of the quarter would prove to be an even battle in the midfield as the two teams would not register another shot or corner in the quarter.
  • The final dagger came in the third period as the Hawks stepped in to take their seventh penalty corner of the game. Lewandowski would step in to feed the ball into play. A straight shot over to Kapsambelis, the distributor of the day, would find classmate Abby Breznyak (Oakland, Maine) who scored the final goal of the day as the Hawks stumped the higher ranked Penmen 3-0.
