HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The first quarter Saint Anselm came ready to play, tallying the first shot on target from senior Amanda Lewandowski (Franklin, Mass.) which deflected onto the stick of teammate Maddie Davis (Exeter, N.H.) who scored the first goal of the afternoon. After taking a 1-0 advantage the Hawks would be forced to fall back into their defensive zone. At 3:06 the Setters would even the game as Katelyn Fairhurst would score off of a crossed ball from Krista Dietz. After six-minutes of no scoring Saint Anselm would find themselves with a beautiful score from Lewandowski as she tipped a rip from Maggie Burchill (Braintree, Mass.) giving them the 2-1 advantage. The Hawks would end the quarter on a high note as Meghan Smith (Uxbridge, Mass.) would score off of a blocked shot from teammate Burchill, giving the home team the 3-1 advantage going into the second quarter of action.
- In the second quarter the scoring would continue for both teams with Saint Anselm striking first. Senior Stephanie Sutton-Brown (Ashby, Mass.) would rip a shot past the Setters keeper, but would be turned away by Bella Basulto's defensive save. The save would drop the ball into the stick of Ava Rayfield (Dover-Foxcroft, Maine) who scored the Hawks fourth goal of the afternoon. The Setters would look for a response, firing three shots at senior goal tender Sidney Falterer (Fairfield, Conn.) before Fairhurst would find the back of the cage off of a deflection. Saint Anselm would keep their foot on the gas, earning a penalty corner in the 23rd minute, taken by Lewandowski. A set play from the Hawks would allow for senior Grace Michael (Hampton Falls, N.H.) to rip and score off of a feed from Chloe Kapsambelis (Merrimack, N.H.) putting the Hawks up 5-2. The half would end with one final score form the visitors scoring their third goal off of a deflection from Falterer from Ella Tamweber.
- The second half would begin relatively uneventful compared to the first half of play. Saint Anselm would find themselves with scoring opportunities in the 36th and 37th minute of action as they would tab two penalty corners and three shots. The best shot coming from Davis as she would get it past the keeper, but another key defensive save from Isabella Boertjes would keep the Hawks from scoring. The Setters would then take control earning three corners in the final five minutes of play. Jenna McCrudden made the game a one-goal difference scoring off of a corner with a feed from Carlotta Oschmann to end the quarter. The fourth quarter stayed an even match between the teams as Saint Anselm would only be able to notch two more shots on goal and Pace would tally just one, as Falterer would make a clutch save in the final 15-seconds.
