AMHERST, N.Y. - Despite a strong start, the Saint Anselm women's basketball team was unable to hold off a late surge from Daemen in the fourth quarter as the Wildcats pulled away for the 55-49 victory in non-conference play from Lumsden Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Saint Anselm jumped out to the early lead, building a four-point edge midway through the opening stanza. Daemen battled back to knot the score at 11-11 in the final minutes of the frame, but an Avery Romps (Greenland, N.H.) three-pointer gave the Hawks the 14-11 edge after one.
- In the second, the Hawks started to pull away, leading by as many as 13 (26-13) midway through the second. The Wildcats slowly chipped away at the lead, but Saint Anselm held a five-point edge heading into halftime.
- In the third, Saint Anselm stretched its lead to seven, but by the mid-point of the quarter Daemen had knotted the score at 30-30 and by the end of the stanza the hosts held a one-point edge, 34-33.
- In the fourth, the teams traded leads, but Saint Anselm held a five-point edge (49-44) with 2:42 remaining when Marta Ponz Gomez (Sevilla, Spain) connected on a three-pointer. Daemen battled back and knotted the score at 49-49 just 40 seconds later. The Wildcats continued their scoring run, scoring six unanswered to pull away for the victory.

- Elise MacNair (Old Orchard Beach, Maine) led the Hawks with 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds.
- Addisen Sulikowski (Saco, Maine) scored 11 points on 3-of-5 three-point shooting while also contributing six rebounds.
- Melanie Hoyt (Stamford, N.Y.) had a team-high 10 rebounds and added eight points.
- Katie Lemanski (Haymarket, Va.) added nine assists.
- Saint Anselm edged Daemen on the boards, 42-29.
- Daemen scored 29 points of 26 Saint Anselm turnovers.
