HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The first quarter of action began with a home team advantage, as they took a 10-4 lead over the visiting Hawks off of sharp shooting from Aliv Vallone Russell. Harmony Marquez (Rutherford, N.J.) broke their stride with her own good jump shot. As the Hawks began to grab their footing senior Marta Pons Gomez (Sevilla, Spain) tabbed her first three pointer of the afternoon bringing the game within two to end the quarter.
- D'Youville would continue their impressive shooting into the second quarter as they would tally back-to-back three pointers from Vallone. Anna Nelson (Gorham, Maine) would step up for the Hawks grabbing her own shot from distance to disturb the Saints run. Saint Anselm would continue to try to get themselves back into the game as freshman Addisen Sulikowski (Saco, Maine) would also connect from deep to bring the game within two. A final layup from Melanie Hoyt (Stamford, N.Y.) would leave the game tied going into halftime.
- The second half began as a battle between the two teams as the Hawks would strike first with a Katie Lemanski (Haymarket, Va.) attack and score, but would be met by yet another Saints three pointer. Halfway through the period the Hawks would take a five point advantage off of another strong post move and finish from Hoyt. Saint Anselm's lead would extend to as far as 10 behind five points from Sulikowski.
- In the final quarter of play Saint Anselm would find themselves with a 14 points advantage as Lemanski and Elise MacNair (Old Orchard Beach, Maine) exchanged buckets in transition. D'Youville would attempt to stop the bleeding with a pair of in the paint finishes but one last pair of post moves from Hoyt would seal the Hawks victory.
