HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Assumption got the scoring started less than five minutes into the game. Leo Piandes and Ronny Paragallo set up Jake Lavoie to give the Greyhounds the early 1-0 lead.
- Saint Anselm provided an immediate response at the 6:12 mark of the opening period. Freshman Conor Kelly (Braintree, Mass.) beat the goaltender high to tie the score at 1-1.
- The Hawks kept up their offensive pressure with seven of the game's next eight shots on goal, but Greyhounds goaltender Callum Welch was able to make several saves to keep the game tied.
- 11:50 into the first, Linart scored his first of the night off a feed from junior John Myers (White Plains, N.Y.) and senior Chase Reynolds (Middletown, Conn.), giving the Hawks a 2-1 advantage which they took into the second period.
- Just over a minute into the second, Linart picked up a loose puck in the offensive zone for Saint Anselm. He fired from a tough angle behind the goal, but managed to bounce the shot off the goalie and into the back of the net to make it a 3-1 game.
- The two teams traded scoring opportunities over the next 10 minutes of action. Welch and Hawks sophomore goaltender Cam Carroll (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) made five saves apiece during that stretch.
- 11:11 into the second period, the Greyhounds went on a 5-on-3 power play after two penalties were called on the Hawks. The home team managed to kill off the first penalty, but Lavoie helped the visitors capitalize on the man advantage to cut the deficit to 3-2.
- Less than two minutes later, Saint Anselm answered with their fourth goal of the evening. Junior Garrett Alberti (Wilmington, Mass.) and sophomore Hunter Rossi (Long Island, N.Y.) set up junior Cam Collins (Raynham, Mass.), who backhanded the puck into the net from the top of the crease to help the Hawks extend their lead back up to two goals.
- A little more than a minute after that, Thomas McGaffigan scored an unassisted goal for Assumption, which made it 4-3. The Greyhounds hit the post twice and forced five stops out of Carroll in the final minutes of the second, but the score remained the same heading into the third and final period.
- Saint Anselm was required to kill off a pair of penalties in the opening 12 minutes of the third to preserve their one goal-lead.
- Between the 12:00 and 15:00 marks of the final frame, the Hawks flipped the switch and pumped nine shots on net. However, they were unable to pot the insurance goal.
- Assumption began to change the tides shortly after that with six straight shots on goal of their own. With a little over a minute remaining, the Greyhounds pulled their goalie for the extra attacker and it paid off with Jonathan Surrette tying the score from up top off a feed from Patrick McKiernan.
- With the score tied at 4-4, the game went into overtime. After three saves by Carroll early in the extra period, junior Michael Martignetti (Winchester, Mass.) rang a shot off the cross-bar for Saint Anselm at the other end as the game continued.
- With just over a minute left, McKiernan ended the game with the sudden death goal to give Assumption the 5-4 win.
