Men's Ice Hockey Suffers 3-2 Defeat to Assumption

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College men's ice hockey team suffered a 3-2 loss to Assumption in Northeast-10 Conference action on Saturday afternoon. Junior Michael Martignetti (Winchester, Mass.) scored his first goal of the season for the Hawks, while sophomore Patrick DeMarinis (Manasquan, N.J.) also scored in the loss and is now tied for the team lead with five goals this season.

  • Saint Anselm has concluded play for the fall semester and the 2024 calendar year. The Hawks are off for the holiday break before returning to action on Friday, January 3rd, 2025 when they host Colby in non-conference action at 6:00 p.m. from the Sullivan Arena.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Saint Anselm held a slight 43-35 advantage in shots on goal during the game. The Hawks recorded double digit shot totals in every period including 16 in the first and 15 in the second. The Greyhounds totaled 17 shots on goal in the second period.
  • The Hawks scored once in the second period and once in the third. The Greyhounds scored once in the first and twice in the third.
  • The battle at the faceoff dot was extremely even. Assumption held a slight edge by winning 33 out of 65 draws (50.8 percent) while Saint Anselm won 32 out of 65 attempts (49.2 percent).
  • Senior Max Burum (Marshfield, Mass.) led the Hawks with 10 faceoff wins out of 18 attempts (55.6 percent). Senior Chase Reynolds (Middletown, Conn.) also had a solid night at the dot with nine faceoff wins out of 17 draws (52.9 percent).
  • On the defensive side, the Greyhounds blocked 25 shots in the game, while the Hawks blocked nine shots. Sean Corliss led Assumption with a game-high four blocks.
  • Assumption went 1-5 on the power play and posted 14 shots on goal during the man advantage. The Greyhounds also scored a shorthanded goal. Saint Anselm went 1-2 on the power play and recorded two shots on goal.
  • DeMarinis scored his fifth goal of the season which is now tied for the most on the team and is also tied for second in the conference. Martignetti scored his second collegiate goal and first of the season for the Hawks. Three Saint Anselm players tallied assists in the game.
  • Jake DiNapoli, Dean Simeone, and Jonathan Surrette each scored one for the Greyhounds with three players picking up helpers.
  • Sophomore goaltender Cam Carroll (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) made 32 saves in goal for the Hawks in the loss. Thomas McLarnon made 41 saves in goal for the Greyhounds in the win.
  • This marked the 56th all-time meeting between Saint Anselm and Assumption. The Hawks fall to 35-18-3 against the Greyhounds in the series that began in 1969.
