HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • New Haven's Emily Marco fired the first shot on goal of the game in the 13th minute from the top of the box, but freshman goalkeeper Samantha Swidorski (Woodbury, Minn.) made her first save of the night for Saint Anselm.
  • The Hawks countered with a pair of shot attempts a few minutes later, but neither were on frame.
  • In the 26th minute, Vickie Fleming ripped a shot for the Chargers that was heading for the top left corner, but Swidorski made a sprawling save to her right.
  • New Haven kept their offensive attack going late in the first half with another scoring opportunity. This time, Grace Simpson was the recipient of a through ball that made its way into the box, but Swidorski denied her from point blank range to keep the game scoreless.
  • With under a minute left in the first half, junior Gabrielle Chisholm (Danvers, Mass.) registered the first shot on goal of the match for Saint Anselm, but New Haven goalkeeper Caitlin Daley hauled it in for the save as the score was 0-0 at halftime.
  • The Hawks came out of the break with all the momentum. The visitors recorded five shots, three of which were on target, and earned four corner kicks while holding their opposition without a scoring chance.
  • Following a corner in the 48th minute, sophomore Daniella Atherton (Milford, Mass.) blasted a shot from straight out, but it was saved by a diving Daley. Atherton got another good look at goal just over two minutes later, but her strike could not get past the Charger netminder.
  • Saint Anselm generated what may have been their best scoring opportunity of the match in the 53rd minute. The Hawks served in another corner kick and a battle for the loose ball took place in the box. Seniors Josie Pecor (Williston, Vt.) and Allison Silverstein (Concord, N.H.) each swung at the ball and pushed it past Daley towards goal, but it was cleared off the line by the New Haven defense.
  • The Hawks earned three more corners midway through the second half, but were unable to score. Junior Emma Catanzarite (East Longmeadow, Mass.) got in on the attack at the 71:00 minute mark with a volley inside the box, but Daley made another diving stop to her right.
  • In the 77th minute, Saint Anselm nearly scored again with Catanzarite playing a beautiful ball ahead for freshman Abigail Wilder (Waltham, Mass.), but her shot attempt was parried aside by Daley.
  • Neither side put a shot on frame for the remainder of the match, which went on to end in a scoreless draw.
