BURLINGTON, Vt. – A rapid start and five different goal scorers powered the Saint Anselm College men's ice hockey team to another Northeast-10 Conference road victory over Saint Michael's on Tuesday evening by a final score of 6-3. Sophomore
Patrick DeMarinis (Manasquan, N.J.) recorded his first career multi-goal game in the win. The Hawks improve to 4-1-0 in conference play and currently sit in second place in the league standings.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Both goaltenders were forced to make a pair of early saves to keep the game scoreless in the first few minutes.
- DeMarinis broke that up 3:51 into the first period with his third goal of the year for the Hawks. Senior Luke Mix (Winchester, Mass.) and junior Michael Martignetti (Winchester, Mass.) earned assists on the play.
- The teams continued to trade shots midway through the period, but Saint Anselm sophomore goaltender Cam Carroll (Putnam, Valley, N.Y.) kept his team in front with three saves.
- With a little more than five minutes left in the first, DeMarinis set up senior Max Burum (Marshfield, Mass.), who doubled the lead for the Hawks with his third goal of the season.
- Exactly 36 seconds later, DeMarinis capped off his stellar opening period with his second goal of the game. Senior Hunter Brackett (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) and freshman Hunter Hoffman (Stevensville, Md.) collected helpers on the play. That prompted a goaltender change for the Purple Knights, who pulled Cole Manahan for Evan Plunkett following the three first period goals.
- Saint Michael's got one back before the end of the period thanks to Ben Baxter lighting the lamp, but Saint Anselm maintained a 3-1 lead heading into the second period.
- The visitors opened the second period on the power play, but Plunkett kept his team down by a pair with a couple of timely stops.
- Saint Anselm continued to increase their offensive assault a few minutes into the second. The Hawks fired seven shots on goal within a minute span from 6:29 to 7:24, and finally broke through courtesy of junior Garrett Alberti (Wilmington, Mass.) scoring off a feed from senior Richie Colarusso (Tewksbury, Mass.) to make it 4-1.
- Just over a minute later, junior Alex Hoitt (East Bridgewater, Mass.) made it a 5-1 game with his first tally of the year. Freshman Brendan Manning (Chandler, Ariz.) collected an assist on the fifth Saint Anselm goal.
- Midway through the second, Hoitt was sent to the penalty box after being assessed a minor penalty for tripping. Case Kantgias found David Ciancio to help Saint Michael's capitalize on the power play and cut the deficit down to 5-2.
- The Hawks ended the middle frame by outshooting the Purple Knights, 10-3, but the score remained the same heading into the final period.
- The hosts withstood another offensive onslaught by Saint Anselm to begin the third. The Hawks fired 13 shot attempts in the opening six and a half minutes, but Plunkett stood his ground and made four more saves.
- At the other end, Saint Michael's found the back of the net with Jack Macdonald finishing an unassisted goal to make it a two-score game with 13 minutes remaining.
- Midway through the third, the Hawks were give another power play opportunity after a boarding penalty was called on the Purple Knights. However, the visitors were unable to capitalize despite six more shot attempts.
- With a little over four minutes to go, Brackett sealed the game with his team-best fifth goal of the season to increase the Saint Anselm lead to 6-3.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Saint Anselm held a massive 45-23 advantage in shots on goal during the game. The Hawks recorded a whopping 22 shots on goal in the second period and 15 in the third.
- The Hawks got out to a three-goal lead courtesy of three goals in the first period. They also scored twice in the second and added a final goal in the third. The Purple Knights scored once in each frame.
- Saint Michael's finished with a slight edge at the faceoff dot, winning 37 out of 70 draws (52.9 percent) compared to 33 wins out of 70 (47.1) by Saint Anselm. Burum led the Hawks with 11 faceoff wins out of 23 attempts (47.8 percent).
- On the defensive side, the Purple Knights blocked 19 shots in the game, while the Hawks blocked 10. Martignetti blocked three shots to lead the Hawks.
- Saint Anselm went 0-2 on the power play and posted five shots on goal during the man advantage. Saint Michael's scored on their only man advantage of the night.
- DeMarinis led the Hawks with two goals and a career-high nine shots on goal, while Burum, Brackett, Alberti, and Hoitt each scored once. Nine different Saint Anselm players recorded an assist, including DeMarinis for a three-point game.
- Brackett now leads the team and is tied for second in the NE10 with five goals this season. His 10 points are also second-most in the league. DeMarinis is now second on the squad and tied for sixth in the conference with his four goals this year.
- Baxter, Ciancio, and Macdonald all scored once for the Purple Knights.
- Carroll made 20 saves in goal for the Hawks in the win. Manahan made five saves and allowed three goals in the first period. He was replaced by Plunkett, who made 34 stops and also allowed three goals in the loss for the Purple Knights in a little over two periods of action.
- This marked the 55th all-time meeting between Saint Anselm and Saint Michael's. The Hawks improve to 32-19-4 against the Purple Knights in the series that began in 2000.
