Men's Ice Hockey Overcomes Three-Goal Deficit to Beat Post

SHELTON, Conn. – Four different goal scorers helped the Saint Anselm College men's ice hockey team overcome a three-goal deficit to defeat Post in Northeast-10 Conference action by a final score of 4-3 on Saturday afternoon. Senior Hunter Brackett (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) scored the game-winning goal midway through the third period and senior Luke Mix (Winchester, Mass.) recorded three assists to lead the Hawks.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Saint Anselm held a 32-24 advantage in shots on goal during the game. The Hawks recorded 14 shots in the second period and 12 shots in the third period.
  • Post scored twice in the first period and once in the second to take a commanding 3-0 lead. Saint Anselm scored three times in the second to tie the game before scoring the game-winner in the third.
  • The Hawks held a slight advantage at the faceoff dot by winning 33 out of 64 draws (51.6 percent), while the Eagles went 31 of 64 (48.4 percent).
  • Senior Max Burum (Marshfield, Mass.) led Saint Anselm with 15 faceoff wins out of 24 attempts (62.5 percent).
  • On the defensive side, Post blocked 24 shots in the game, while Saint Anselm blocked 17. Senior Will van der Veen (Duxbury, Mass.) and junior Michael Martignetti (Winchester, Mass.) blocked four shots each to lead the Hawks.
  • Saint Anselm went 2-5 on the power play and posted nine shots on goal during the man advantage. They held Post without a goal on their two power play opportunities.
  • Senior Chase Reynolds (Middletown, Conn.), junior John Myers (White Plains, N.Y.), freshman Brendan Manning (Chandler, Ariz.), and Brackett each scored a goal for the Hawks. Mix tallied three assists, while junior Luke Linart (Holland, Mich.) added a pair of helpers as well.
  • Brackett now leads the team and is tied for third in the NE10 with four goals this season. His eight points are tied for second-most in the league. Reynolds is tied for second on the squad with two goals.
  • Tanner Glasrud, Hugh McGuigan, and Conner Murray each scored once for the Eagles.
  • Sophomore goaltender Cam Carroll (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) made 21 saves in goal for the Hawks in the win, while Zach Richards made 28 stops in the loss for the Eagles.
  • This marked the 20th all-time meeting between Saint Anselm and Post. The Hawks improve to 16-3-1 against the Eagles in the series that began in 2017.
