HOW IT HAPPENED:
- In the first quarter, the teams battled in the midfield for the majority of the period. On the offensive front, Southern N.H. registered the first shot of the evening with Annemartine Christis notching one in the first three minutes, but that attempt was turned away by senior goaltender Sidney Falterer (Fairfield, Conn.) of Saint Anselm.
- The Hawks earned their first scoring opportunity from a penalty corner taken by fifth year Maddie Davis (Exeter, N.H.), allowing junior Ellie Brothers (Stafford Springs, Conn.) to rip a shot, but that effort was turned away by the Penmen goalie, Emma Peeters.
- Saint Anselm began to take over in the second quarter, tallying six penalty corners and eight shots, while Southern N.H. did not record any. The best scoring opportunity came from senior Ava Rayfield (Dover-Foxcroft, Maine), but her shot from close range was rejected by Peeters once again.
- In the third, the Penmen started off with a pair of shots from Eliza Bates, but Falterer turned those scoring chances away. Shortly after, Southern N.H. continued to maintain pressure with Christis tabbing another shot on goal.
- After continuing the midfield battle, the Hawks found themselves another scoring opportunity as Davis fired a shot towards Peeters, but that was turned aside.
- A total of three shots were taken during the fourth quarter between both teams, but all were either saved or blocked by defenders.
- With the score still deadlocked at 0-0, the thrilling matchup headed to overtime. In the first ten-minute segment of seven-on-seven field hockey, the Hawks maintained the majority of control with the team earning three penalty corners and taking two shots. However, both attempts were blocked away by the Penmen.
- In the second period of overtime, Saint Anselm generated a great scoring opportunity off a penalty corner, but the shot by senior Chloe Kapsambelis (Merrimack, N.H.) went wide.
- In the 75th minute, and with a little more than five minutes remaining before penalty strokes, Southern N.H. earned their first penalty corner of the evening and capitalized as Christis buried her 18th goal of the season off an assist from Bates to end the game.
