HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • In the opening minute of the game, Saint Anselm earned a set piece in the attacking half. Senior Michael Provenzano (Stratham, N.H.) clipped a ball into the box that bounced to Bravo Ollé in front of the net, but Assumption goalkeeper Iver Sjavag was able to make the save.
  • At the other end, Hawks junior goalkeeper David Hood (Manchester, N.H.) kept the Greyhounds off the board following their first scoring chance, denying a shot from Cody Holbert to keep the game scoreless.
  • In the fifth minute, fifth-year senior Ethan Northcott (Hollis, N.H.) played a left-footed long ball over the Assumption back line. Bravo Ollé tracked it down, dribbled towards goal, and fired a shot that bounced into the lower left corner, giving Saint Anselm an early 1-0 lead.
  • In the following minutes, the goalies traded saves with Hood stopping Jorgo Karamelo of Assumption and Sjavag stopping a shot from Saint Anselm senior Caden Leader (Durham. N.H.).
  • In the 15th minute, the Greyhounds answered after drawing a penalty kick inside the Hawks penalty box. Brady Devos stepped up to take the shot and delivered with the game-tying goal.
  • The Hawks started to take back some momentum over the next few minutes of the game as both Bravo Ollé and and Leader let shots fly from inside the box. Leader's was held on to by Sjavag, while Bravo Ollé's leaked wide to the right.
  • Saint Anselm earned three corner kicks midway through the first half, but were unable to pull ahead. In the 22nd minute, senior Aiden Lehane (Assonet, Mass.) attempted a shot from the top of the box, but his strike was blocked by an Assumption defender.
  • The Greyhounds closed the half with four more shot attempts including two shots by Jevin Green, but Hood and the Hawks were able to get to halftime with the score knotted up at 1-1.
  • Just over a minute into the second half, Saint Anselm scored the go-ahead goal with Bravo Ollé playing a one-timed through ball ahead to Leader. Leader chased down the pass and toe-poked a shot into the upper right corner, making it 2-1 in favor of the Hawks.
  • The home team kept their foot on the pedal and found the back of the net again in the 60th minute. This time it was Leader who played the through ball down the right wing to fifth-year senior Zach Verow (Bedford, N.H.). Verow dribbled into the box and cut a pass back to Bravo Ollé, whose shot went through the goalkeeper's legs and made it a 3-1 game.
  • Trailing by two with a half hour to play, Assumption made a tactical change to get more numbers forward. The Greyhounds generated four corner kicks over the final 30 minutes, but had trouble creating any solid offensive chances.
  • Saint Anselm had several opportunities to seal the game stemming from counter attacks, but Sjavag made four more saves to keep his team down by just a pair.
  • In the 90th minute, the Greyhounds were given a free kick at the top of the box. Karamelo laced a curling shot towards the top right corner, but a diving Hood made the save and the Hawks held on for their first win of the season.
