SPARKILL, N.Y. – The Saint Anselm College field hockey team took down non-conference opponent St. Thomas Aquinas on Friday by a 4-2 final score. Four different student-athletes scored in the fourth straight win for the Hawks.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Saint Anselm struck first with a goal before the three minute mark in the first quarter. Senior Amanda Lewandowski (Franklin, Mass.) found senior Stephanie Sutton-Brown (Ashby, Mass.) for her first goal of the season to put the Hawks up, 1-0.
- The Hawks continued their offensive pressure resulting in their next score coming in the 12th minute of play. Fifth-year Maddie Davis (Exeter, N.H.) got herself in a scoring position after taking a penalty corner and received a pass from senior Abby Breznyak (Oakland, Maine) before finishing to make it a 2-0 game.
- Just over a minute later, Saint Anselm scored their third goal of the first quarter with Breznyak getting on the scoresheet off a pass stemming from a penalty corner as the Hawks took a 3-0 lead in the second.
- Saint Anselm started the second period well with four shot attempts, but St. Thomas Aquinas got a goal back with 90 seconds before halftime. Phileine Langeveld assisted Madelyn Verstraten to make it 3-1 at halftime.
- The Hawks dominated possession in the third and created most of the scoring opportunities with three shots and three penalty corners, but failed to score.
- The Spartans fired two shots on goal in the third quarter, but senior goaltender Sidney Falterer (Fairfield, Conn.) saved both to keep the score at 3-1 entering the final quarter of play.
- With a little over five minutes left in the game, Saint Anselm earned a penalty stroke. Sophomore Laurentien van den Akker (Geldrop, The Netherlands) stepped up to the spot and delivered her third goal of the season, putting the Hawks up 4-1
- St. Thomas Aquinas added one more goal late in the game with Hailey Galison scoring off a penalty corner, but Saint Anselm was able to see out the rest of the match and hold on for the 4-2 win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Brezynak led Saint Anselm with her first multi-point game of the season coming from a goal and an assist.
- Davis, Sutton-Brown, and van den Akker all scored one goal for the Hawks.
- Falterer made two saves and allowed two goals in the cage on the afternoon.
- As a team, Saint Anselm totaled 13 shots with 10 on goal and earned 14 penalty corners.
