WORCESTER, Mass. – The Saint Anselm College women's volleyball team fought through five sets on Tuesday evening, falling to Northest-10 opponent Assumption University by a 3-2 final (25-22, 27-25, 23-25, 25-23, 15-13).

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Saint Anselm opened the first set of the night with a 4-2 advantage over Assumption as Hollyn Frano (Cave Creek, Ariz.) tabbed an early kill and Abigail Macalaguim (Chula Vista, Calif.) registered a service ace. The Greyhounds would make their way back into the set, tying the set and going onto take a 14-10 lead behind a kill from Christine Mbachi and Alexis Distasio. The Hawks would make their way back into the set with kills from Taylor Lacerda (Franklin, Mass.), Sam Pila (Melbourne, Australia) and Frano, tying the set at 20 a-piece. A 6-2 final run from the home team would secure their 25-22 first set victory.
- Assumption would come out strong in the second set of the evening taking a 5-1 opening lead before the Hawks would respond with their own 4-0 run highlighted by a kill and service ace from Frano. The two teams would stay even through the bulk of the mid-section of the second set until the Greyhounds found a bit of breathing room taking an 18-15 lead after another Mbachi kill. Pila ignited the Hawks come back with a kill and service ace pushing the set back to a tie at 21. After the teams bringing the set to be tied at 25 a-piece, a kill from Lacerda and service ace from Frano would finalize the Hawks victory, 27-25.
- The third set began the same way as the previous two set as the teams continued to battle through ties. The Greyhounds would find the first lead taking a 13-9 advantage from a pair of service aces from Barbara Illig. The Hawks found their response with kills from Melis Kocak (East Greenwich, R.I.), Miia Dembski (Buffalo, N.Y.) and Frano. A 6-0 run from the home team would give them an 23-18 advantage late in the set as they strung together three kills and a service ace from Marisa Billone. Saint Anselm would find their footing bringing the set within one point, 23-24, with Frano tallying another kill. Assumption notched one final kill from Distasio to win the set 25-23.
- Excitement continued through the fourth set as the two teams battled through the midway point of the set. Saint Anselm found themselves in the lead, 16-11, after kills from Lacerda and Dembski. The Hawks went on to take their biggest lead 20-13 as Frano and Pila capitalized off of strong serves and swings. The home team would rally back into the set bringing the score within one, 22-21, as the Hawks would tally errors. A pair of kills from Lacerda would go on to force a fifth set to determine the winner.
- Saint Anselm would come ready to rally in the fifth set taking a 6-3 advantage as Lacerda caught heat on the attack. As a response Assumption would go on their own 5-0 run struck from a triple threat of kills from the home team. Frano would score three out four final points for the Hawks but a final two kills from the Greyhounds would finalize their victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Frano led the offensive attack for the Hawks finishing with a career-high 26 kills, seven digs and two service aces. Lacerda followed behind with a career-high 16 kills, 14 digs and a pair of blocks.
- Macalaguim kept the streak of filling the stats for the team tabbing a career-high 56 assists, nine digs, four service aces, and three kills.
- Defensively, Madeline Burke (Lake George, N.Y.) led the way tallying 25 total digs and one assist.
- As a team, Saint Anselm finished the match with 63 kills, 97 digs, and 10 service aces.
