HOW IT HAPPENED:
- In the first set the visiting Yellow Jackets took a 6-2 advantage as the Hawks struggled against their strong swings. A pair of kills from Melis Kocak (East Greenwich, R.I.) and Taylor Lacerda (Franklin, Mass.) temporarily paused the momentum but American Int'l would take an 18-11 lead. Kocak, Lacerda and Sam Pila (Melbourne, Australia) would tally the final three points for the Hawks but American Int'l would tab four more kills to take the 25-16 victory.
- The second set began as an even affair as the teams exchanged runs to tie a 5 a-piece with Miia Dembski (Buffalo, N.Y.), Hollyn Frano (Cave Creek, Ariz.) and Lacerda all notched kills. The Yellow Jackets would go on to take an 11-7 advantage through a run of blocks from Victoria Mendez and Aleksandra Lucic. These blocks would lead to an offensive explosion from the visitors as they would tally eight kills before the Hawks would be able to respond with a 3-0 run of their own with Lacerda tallying all three points on kills. American Int'l would go on to win the second set 25-16.
- The final set of the day proved to be an entertaining one as the teams again went toe-to-toe through the seventh point. For the Hawks Lacerda and Frano would come alive firing strikes down the lines and earning kills. Eventually the home team would find their first significant lead (11-7) with Frano and Kocak registering kills and Abigail Macalagium (Chula Vista, Calif.) grabbing a big service ace. American Int'l would rally, going on their own 8-1 run. Saint Anselm would continue to keep it close as Pila would grad a block and a kill to keep the game within two, 18-20. The last earned point for the Hawks would come from a Kocak kill, but the strong swings of the Yellow Jackets middle hitters would finalize their days win, 25-21.
