HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Franklin Pierce wasted little time and scored the game's opening goal 37 seconds into the match. Joao Araujo lofted a cross into the box from the left wing, which bounced out to Tiago Barriguinha, who finished with a left-footed volley to give the Ravens the early lead.
  • Saint Anselm came close to responding a few seconds later when sophomore Connor Lovely (Weymouth, Mass.) played a through ball ahead to senior Caden Leader (Durham, N.H.), but his shot from inside the box sailed wide.
  • The Ravens attempted the next five shots of the game. Aaron Sanchez Sanchez and Guillermo Avendano put shots on goal from close range for the visitors, but Hawks junior goalkeeper David Hood (Manchester, N.H.) made saves on both attempts.
  • In the 19th minute, Saint Anselm was given a free kick from about 30 yards away from goal after a foul was called on Franklin Pierce. Senior Michael Provenzano (Stratham, N.H.) curled a ball into the box and sophomore Yves Maurer (Munich, Germany) volleyed it down out of the air. The ball bounced across the face of goal and senior Lucas Bravo Ollé (Sitges, Barcelona, Spain) used a one-time finish to even the score at 1-1.
  • Franklin Pierce answered right back with two goals in a 1:45 span. 30 seconds after Saint Anselm equalized, Araujo got down the left wing and served in another cross. The ball bounced past a few defenders and found a wide open Antonio Lampreia Lima, who smashed a volley into the top shelf to make it 2-1. Just moments later in the 21st minute, the Ravens played another ball into the box and a failed clearance by the Hawks allowed for an easy finish out in front by Guillermo Avendano, making it a 3-1 game.
  • Hood went on to make two more stops for Saint Anselm to close out the first half. The Hawks were unable to create another scoring chance as the Ravens maintained their two-goal lead at halftime.
  • Franklin Pierce started the second half well with several scoring opportunities. The Ravens nearly increased their advantage to three goals in the 50th minute, but Barriguinha's shot from the top of the box bounced off the cross-bar and went out of play.
  • A couple minutes later, Avedano got past the Saint Anselm defense and dribbled towards goal for Franklin Pierce. However, Hood charged out, closed down the angle, and made a huge stop to keep the Hawks down by just a pair. The junior netminder denied Avedano again in the 62nd minute to keep it a 3-1 game.
  • In the 69th minute, Saint Anselm generated their first quality chance of the second half. Bravo Ollé floated in a free kick from outside the penalty area that fifth-year senior Zach Verow (Bedford, N.H.) was able to track down and settle at the top of the six-yard box. His left-footed effort was denied by Franklin Pierce goalkeeper Karl Vernet, who did well to come out and close Verow's angle.
  • That scoring opportunity ignited the Hawks with some belief as the home side found a goal just two minutes later. Senior Andrew Kubinski (Norton, Mass.) sent a deep set piece into the box for Saint Anselm. Vernet came out to punch it away for the Ravens, but he mishit the ball, which bounced to Lovely at the back side of the box. Lovely one-timed a pass across the face of goal and Prouty tapped it in from a yard out to make it 3-2 with just under 20 minutes remaining.
  • Saint Anselm continued to increase their offensive pressure in the final minutes of the game. In the 88th minute, Bravo Ollé intercepted a pass around midfield and quickly sent a ball over the back line of Franklin Pierce. Verow ran onto it and pushed it ahead to Prouty, who cut to his right foot and buried the equalizer into the lower left corner, making it a 3-3 game with 2:36 remaining.
  • Hood made one more save in the final minute and the Hawks saw out the remaining time to earn a crucial point with the 3-3 draw.
