Bravo Ollé Scores Twice, Men's Soccer Secures 2-2 Draw at AIC

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Saint Anselm had the upper hand in the first 25 minutes of the game. The Hawks produced four shots and four corner kicks during that span and held their opponents without one of either.
  • Despite the early momentum for Saint Anselm, American International broke through in the 26th minute with Pietro Botasso finishing his first goal of the game off a feed from Guilherme Afonso to give the Yellow Jackets the 1-0 lead.
  • The Hawks nearly answered a little over a minute later when senior Jack O'Brien (Norton, Mass.) put a shot on target, but it was stopped by Yellow Jackets goalkeeper Lucas Morales-Fernandez.
  • Senior Samuel Assantha (Bukavu, Democratic Republic of the Congo) also fired a shot on frame in the final five minutes of the half, but Morales-Fernandez made another save to keep his team in front by a goal at halftime.
  • Junior goalkeeper David Hood (Manchester, N.H.) made his first save of the afternoon for Saint Anselm in the 55th minute.
  • At the other end, senior Zach Verow (Bedford, N.H.) made a move down the right wing and crossed a ball into the box that found Bravo Ollé, whose shot deflected off a defender and made its way into the back of the net to tie the score at 1-1.
  • The celebrations were short-lived for the Hawks as the Yellow Jackets notched the go-ahead goal just seconds later off the ensuing kickoff. Botasso one-timed a centering pass from Nicholas Chapman into the goal to make it 2-1 in the 56th minute.
  • Botasso tried to go for the hat trick with another shot on goal shortly after, but Hood was able to make another stop. Hood also denied a strike from Renford Morgan to keep his team down by just a goal.
  • In the 74th minute, Bravo Ollé equalized for the second time for Saint Anselm. Senior Aiden Lehane (Assonet, Mass.) drove into the box and found Bravo Ollé open out in front. His shot went between the goalkeeper's legs and into the back of the net, which tied the score at 2-2.
  • Lehane picked up his second yellow card in the 77th minute, meaning the Hawks were forced to play with 10 men for the remainder of the game.
  • Saint Anselm was able to limit American International without a quality scoring chance in the final minutes of the match and held on for the 2-2 draw.
