HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Saint Anselm nearly scored the opening goal in the first minute of play. Fifth-year senior Zach Verow (Bedford, N.H.) made a dangerous run into the box and laid a pass back to senior James Poschmann (Bedford, N.H.), but his left-footed shot bounced off the crossbar and went out of bounds.
- Daemen's Emmanuel Perez registered the first shot on goal of the match for either side in the sixth minute, but a quick reflex save was made by Saint Anselm's junior goalkeeper David Hood (Manchester, N.H.), who had charged out to the top of the box to close down the shooting angle.
- The Wildcats started to generate some momentum shortly after by creating several scoring chances in the attacking third.
- In the 14th minute, Daemen dumped a long ball into the penalty box that bounced to Fabrizzio Jaramillo, but his strike was cleared off the goal line by sophomore Connor Lovely (Weymouth, Mass.) of Saint Anselm to keep the game scoreless.
- The two sides combined for five corner kicks midway through the first half with the Hawks earning three, but neither team was able to find the back of the net.
- Jaramillo forced another save out of Hood in the 27th minute as the Wildcats continued to look threatening.
- In the 33rd minute, senior Aiden Lehane (Assonet, Mass.) started a counter-attack for Saint Anselm from his own half. The left back drove towards goal and slid a pass along the top of the box to Bravo Ollé, who finished into the top left corner to make it 1-0.
- Just over three minutes later, Daemen was given a set piece just outside the Saint Anselm penalty box. Hood came off his line, leaped in the air, and held on for another save.
- The Hawks were then able to build out of the back and created another counter attack, starting with Bravo Ollé receiving a pass near midfield and one-timing a beautiful long ball over the Daemen back line. Poschmann chased it down the left side and centered a pass into the box for Prouty, who buried his first career goal to double the Saint Anselm lead at the 36:53 mark of the first half.
- Both goalkeepers were required to make one more save late in the first half as the score remained 2-0 at the halftime break.
- Miguel Galindo produced the first scoring opportunity of the second half for Daemen in the 50th minute with a shot on frame, but it was corralled by Hood once again.
- After a choppy start to the half, Saint Anselm started to settle things down, leading to a great chance in the 68th mintue. Verow and senior Andrew Kubinski (Norton, Mass.) applied pressure up top and forced a turnover by Daemen goalkeeper Colin Hockridge. Verow collected the ball on the right side of the box and played a low cross to Kubinski, but his one-timer missed just outside the left post.
- The final 20 minutes of the game was dominated by the Hawks, who had the majority of possession and were lurking around the Wildcats penalty area. Prouty posted three more shot attempts over that span and another shot by Bravo Ollé was pushed just wide to the right as the home team was unable to find a third goal.
- Gaetan Francois put a solid strike on target for Daemen with just over a minute to play, but it was right at Hood who made another stop to preserve the shutout.
