MANCHESTER, N.H. – Senior Allison Silverstein (Concord, N.H.) scored her first goal of the season to help the Saint Anselm College women's soccer team earn a 1-1 tie against Southern Connecticut State on Saturday afternoon. The Hawks remain in fifth place in the Northeast-10 Conference standings with the result, while the Owls stay one point back in a tie for sixth place.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Saint Anselm had Southern Connecticut State pinned down early with four shots on goal in the first eight minutes of the game. Owls goalkeeper Kaelen Fabry stopped all four of those shots to keep it scoreless for the time being.
  • Silverstein got the Hawks on the board in the 19th minute with her first goal of the season. Pecor laid a pass backwards to Silverstein, who fired a right-footed shot from outside the box up and over Fabry to make it 1-0.
  • Over the next few minutes, DiGilio and junior Zarina Pinto (Groveland, Mass.) each attempted shots from around the box that were close, but missed the target.
  • The Owls started to build into the game late in the first half and began creating scoring opportunities, but the visitors did not log a shot on goal as the first half ended with a 1-0 score in favor of the Hawks.
  • A few minutes into the second half, junior Nina Cuccovia (East Longmeadow, Mass.) tried to beat the keeper with a long distance strike, but Fabry collected it without trouble.
  • Southern Connecticut State earned a corner kick in the 70th minute and were able to produce their first shot on goal shortly after. Riley Ayer lofted a ball towards goal, but freshman goalkeeper Samantha Swidorski (Woodbury, Minn.) grabbed it comfortably for Saint Anselm.
  • Pecor and freshman Meghan Deneen (Marlborough, Mass.) put shots on goal in the 71st and 74th minutes, respectively, but Fabry corralled both.
  • In the 76th minute, the Owls earned a set piece just outside the box. Emma Noheimer served a ball across the face of goal and found her teammate, Mimmi Baureus, whose one-timer rattled off the cross-bar before going out of play.
  • Southern Connecticut State continued to build on their momentum with another shot on goal that was saved. With under 10 minutes remaining, Baureus played a deep free kick into the box. The ball bounced through a scrum of players and made its way to Shelby Green, who was able collect and finish with Swidorski caught out of her net, tying the score at 1-1.
  • Saint Anselm registered three more shots on frame in the final eight minutes of the match, including one by Silverstein in the final seconds, but were unable to regain the lead as the game ended in a 1-1 draw.
