MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College men's soccer team was defeated on Tuesday by Saint Michael's College in the annual non-conference Community Cup Match between the two programs.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Saint Michael's got off to a dream start with Alessandro Pescina finishing into the top right corner to give the Purple Knights the lead just 1:13 into the match.
- The visitors continued to increase their pressure in the following minutes, posting six shots and earning three corner kicks. Saint Anselm junior goalkeeper Peyton Breda (Stoneham, Mass.) made a save against Amos Schramm of Saint Michael's during that span.
- The Purple Knights doubled their lead in the 24th minute after Muntasir Ahmed set up Marshall Butler to make it a 2-0 game.
- Two more goals by Jake Manley and Joey Manley in the final seven minutes of the first half allowed Saint Michael's to take a 4-0 lead at halftime.
- Saint Anselm registered its first shot on goal of the match early in the second half with freshman Chance Prouty (Danvers, Mass.) firing from long distance, but Saint Michael's goalkeeper Garrett Smith was able to make the easy save.
- Butler and the Purple Knights nearly scored a fifth goal in the 64th minute, but his shot rang off the outside of the left post and trickled out of bounds.
- Neither team scored for the remainder of the match and Saint Michael's earned the dominant non-conference victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Saint Michael's held a 16-4 lead in total shot attempts as well as a 7-1 advantage in shots on goal.
- The Purple Knights had 10 corner kicks in the match, while the Hawks had three.
- Saint Anselm committed 15 fouls in the match, while Saint Michael's committed 10. There were seven yellow cards issued with the Hawks picking up five and the Purple Knights picking up two.
- Four different players scored goals and seven different players recorded at least one point for Saint Michael's.
- Smith made one save and earned the shutout win in goal for the Purple Knights. Ian Boudreau replaced Smith for the final 18 minutes of the game and maintained the clean sheet.
- Breda earned his first collegiate start in net for the Hawks. He made one save in the first half and was replaced by junior David Hood (Manchester, N.H.), who made two saves in the second half.
- This marked the 63rd all-time meeting between Saint Anselm and Saint Michael's. The Hawks fall to 38-18-7 against the Purple Knights in the series that began in 1967.
