HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Mules took a quick 1-0 advantage to start the game after Dan Juzych slotted the puck into the back of the net less than two minutes into the first period. Starting in net for the Hawks, sophomore goalie Tucker Hanson (Boxford, Mass.), posted six early saves along with a block by sophomore Luke Linart (Holland, Mich.). At the 9:14 mark, Saint Anselm earned their first power play chance of the game after Juzych was whistled for interference. Junior Max Burum (Marshfield, Mass.) fired the lone shot on target during the man advantage but Colby goalie Andy Beran would make the stop.
  • Colby would earn two late power plays to close out the opening period registering eight total shot attempts. Hanson saved five of the eight shots while sophomore Alex Hoitt (East Bridgewater, Mass.) and senior Brendan Crimmins (Ramsey, N.J.) each produced a block apiece to keep the score at 1-0 heading into the first intermission.
  • Saint Anselm forced three early saves from Beran to start the second period with Burum firing two of the three shots for the Hawks. After both teams exchanged shots, the Mules doubled their lead thanks to a score by Michael McEachern. Sophomore Garrett Alberti (Wilmington, Mass.) responded for Saint Anselm scoring just a few minutes later off the assists from Hoitt and senior Will Christensen (Ridgefield, Conn.) to make it a 2-1 game. Colby would tally two late goals toward the end of the second period, one by James Tepper and the other from John McElaney, to extend the Mules advantage to 4-1 heading into the third period.
  • Griffin Grise had a goal-scoring chance in the opening 30 seconds of the third period, but Christensen came up big for the Hawks and made a diving block. Shortly after, freshmen Steve Armstrong (Victor, N.Y.) and Hunter Rossi (Long Island, N.Y.) each fired a shot on frame for Saint Anselm. At the 3:28 mark, Tepper notched his second goal of the afternoon to put Colby up 5-1.
  • Approaching the midway point of the period, the Mules furthered their advantage to 6-1 after capitalizing on their second power play chance. With just under 10 minutes left in the game, senior Tommy Schwartz (Ridgefield, Conn.) scored an unassisted goal to make it a 6-2 game. A late goal by McElaney, his second score of the day, would ultimately seal Colby's victory by a final score of 7-2.
