ALBANY, N.Y. – The Saint Anselm College men's basketball team defeated The College of Saint Rose, 75-71, on the road in Northeast-10 Conference action. The Hawks improved to 3-5 in conference play while the Golden Knights dropped to a 2-6 league record with the loss.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Saint Anselm pulled away early in the first half with a 7-3 lead thanks to a couple of baskets by sophomore Sean McCarthy (Cork, Ireland) and a three-pointer from fifth-year Tyler Arbuckle (Bristol, Conn.). Sophomore Josh Morissette (Exeter, N.H.) knocked down his first triple of the game which kickstarted a 7-2 run for the Hawks to snag a 17-8 advantage.
- At the 11:25 mark, Morissette hit another three-pointer off the assist from senior Matt Becker (Fairfield, Conn.) to make it 20-12 Hawks. After a quiet two minutes of play, Dante Weise finished a jump shot to narrow Saint Anselm's advantage to just five points with under nine minutes left in the first half.
- Late in the half, the Golden Knights generated a 6-2 run to make it a one-point possession game with 2:57 remaining on the clock. Arbuckle answered for the Hawks with a good jumper, but Saint Rose would connect seven straight points in the final two minutes of the half featuring a triple by Tristian Jeffries to make it 32-30. Senior Jadon Archer (Enfield, Conn.) finished a layup off the assist from junior Zac Taylor (Victoria, Australia) with just four seconds left before the break to tie the game at 32-32.
- The Hawks started the second half by going on a 10-2 run in the opening five minutes highlighted by three-pointers from Arbuckle and junior Keith Robinson (Phillip Island, Australia) to extend Saint Anselm's lead to eight points. At the 14:10 mark, Becker knocked down a triple off the feed from Arbuckle to make it 45-36. The Golden Knights continued to stay in the game with Jabari Phillip Jr. pouring in five points followed by Jeffries finishing an and-one play to cut the Hawks advantage down to two points.
- Shortly after Saint Rose regained a 52-50 lead, McCarthy responded for the Hawks by pouring in the next six points to reclaim a 56-53 advantage. Both teams continued to exchange points approaching the final minutes of the game. With just under four minutes left, Morissette hit a three-pointer to take 65-63 edge. Becker would finish a layup to even the score back up before Morissette knocked down another triple to go ahead 70-67 with 1:55 left on the clock. Taylor would hit a triple at the 1:12 mark followed by two made free-throw attempts to seal the 75-71 victory over Saint Rose.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Saint Anselm made 27-of-60 (45.0%) shots from the field while Saint Rose made 26-of-65 attempts (40.0%) from the floor.
- The Golden Knights out-rebounded the Hawks by a 47-34 margin, including 15 offensive boards, but the Hawks held a slight 7-6 edge in steals in the contest.
- Saint Anselm capitalized behind the arc shooting 40.0 percent from the three-point range after knocking down 10-of-25 attempts while Saint Rose only made 3-of-15 three-point shots in the night.
- Morissette led the Hawks with 25 points (9-12 FG, 4-7 3-FG, 3-5 FT) in the win along with four rebounds, two assists, and a steal. McCarthy earned his second consecutive double-double after scoring 14 points (4-11 FG, 6-9 FT) and posting 10 rebounds. Arbuckle and Robinson also scored in the double-digits combining for 23 points and recording three rebounds apiece.
- Jeffries led the Golden Knights with 18 points (7-14 FG, 3-7 3-FG, 1-1 FT), seven rebounds, and a steal.
