HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Arbuckle got Saint Anselm on the board just over two minutes into the game by finishing a layup in transition. However, the Hawks would not score for the next three minutes of game time, but would stay in striking distance of New Haven by keeping the Chargers off the scoreboard on four straight possessions.
  • A fastbreak layup by Morissette made it an 8-4 Charger lead at the 14:27 mark of the first half. A made three from Arbuckle followed by another fastbreak layup, this time from junior Sean McCarthy (Cork, Ireland), tied the score at 11-11.
  • After a made layup by junior Zac Taylor (Victoria, Australia) for Saint Anselm with under 10 minutes in the half, Arbuckle took over on the offensive end with seven straight points for his team including another made triple. Taylor also knocked down a three-pointer for the Hawks, but the Chargers ended the half with two made midrange jumpers by Jah'likai King to head into the locker room with a 33-27 lead.
  • Saint Anselm came out of the halftime break on a mission, scoring 48 points over the game's final 20 minutes. McCarthy led that charge early in the second half with a made three on the opening possession. Back-to-back buckets from Arbuckle, the first being a three point field goal, gave the Hawks a 39-38 lead, their first of the afternoon.
  • On the very next possession, it was Morissette getting in on the action by connecting from deep, and after getting a stop on defense, Arbuckle knocked down another triple on the other end that forced a New Haven timeout with Saint Anselm in front, 45-38.
  • The Chargers answered with a 10-4 run to make it just a one point Hawks lead, but Morissette quickly ended that run by finishing a layup and then bottoming another three. McCarthy then came up with a steal on the defensive end that led to his own fastbreak layup to put his team back ahead by eight points at 56-48 with 9:16 remaining.
  • The threes continued to fall for the Hawks with Arbuckle cashing in on another with four minutes to go that gave his team a ten point advantage. Baskets from McCarthy and Taylor with under two minutes to play helped Saint Anselm close out the game and earn the 75-66 win.
