HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Prior to the match, Saint Anselm recognized eight seniors and one fifth year from the class of 2024 in a special Senior Day ceremony. Those honored were fifth year Kathryn White (Georgetown, Mass.) and seniors Alyanna Beaudoin (Saco, Maine), Delaney Glode (Kennebunkport, Maine), Reagan Meehan (Harwich, Mass.), Cricket Good (Newburyport, Mass.), Olivia Gotobed (North Andover, Mass.), Tara McCleary (Quincy, Mass.), Katie Taylor (Southampton, Mass.), and Kathryn Costello (Braintree, Mass.).
  • Both sides started the game with chances early and often, but could not capitalize. Pecor fired the game's first shot wide left in the third minute, while her classmate Riley DiGilio (Danvers, Mass.) also fired a shot just outside the left post in the fifth minute.
  • Hawks freshman goalkeeper Maggie Warner (Saugus, Mass.) made her first stop of the contest in the fourth minute of action, denying a shot from New Haven's Lola Wood. In the 11th minute, Jannayah Body registered the second shot on goal for the Chargers, but her effort off a set piece was collected comfortably by Warner.
  • Just over 18 minutes into the match, the Hawks nearly struck first when Pecor settled a pass from senior Olivia Gotobed (North Andover, Mass.) at the top of box before taking on a defender one-on-one. Just as Pecor was about to fire a shot towards goal, a Chargers defender poked the ball away from the Hawks forward to shut down the opportunity.
  • With just over 10 minutes remaining in the opening half, Saint Anselm fifth year captain Kathryn White (Georgetown, Mass.) curled a free-kick towards the net, forcing New Haven goalkeeper Caitlyn Daley to make a diving save.
  • With less than two minutes remaining in the half, Hawks sophomore Zarina Pinto (Groveland, Mass.) slipped a through ball behind the Chargers' back line that set up junior Sydney Wnek (Haverhill, Mass) with a breakaway chance on goal. Wnek collected the pass in the box, but her shot was misfired just outside the right post.
  • Warner would make one more save on Chargers forward Vickie Fleming to keep the game scoreless heading into the halftime break.
  • Two minutes into the second half, Gotobed served in a curling cross off a corner-kick that found senior Delaney Glode (Kennebunkport, Maine) in the box, but her header missed to the left of the goal.
  • In the 62nd minute, the Hawks finally broke the ice when Pecor notched her fourth goal of the season. White launched a ball up the left sideline that junior Erin Rutherford (Ashburnham, Mass.) ran onto and played forward to Pecor, who got past her defender in the New Haven 18-yard box. The initial shot was saved by Daley, but Pecor smashed the follow-up chance into the back of the net to give Saint Anselm a 1-0 lead.
  • New Haven would not do much to test Warner and the Saint Anselm defense in the closing half hour of the contest and the Hawks held on for a 1-0 victory, their fifth in a row.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Saint Anselm outshot New Haven 23-8 in the game, while also holding a 8-4 advantage in shots on goal.
  • The Hawks had nine corner-kicks in the match, while the Chargers had just one.
  • Warner recorded four saves in her fourth shutout of the season for the Hawks, while Daley tallied seven saves in goal for the Chargers.
  • Pecor scored her team-leading fourth goal of the season for Saint Anselm, all which have come in the last four games.
  • This marked the 24th all-time meeting between Saint Anselm and New Haven, with the Hawks improving to a 11-10-3 record overall against the Chargers.
