HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Bentley opened the scoring in the first 10 minutes of the match when Bridget Gleason found the back of the net, giving the Falcons the early 1-0 advantage.
- Saint Anselm senior Olivia Gotobed (North Andover, Mass.) registered the first shot on goal for the Hawks immediately after the goal, but Falcons goalkeeper Claire Ewen made her first save. Ewen would also deny a shot from junior Josie Pecor (Williston, Vt.) a few minutes later to keep her side in front.
- The Hawks held the upper hand for most of the first half, firing three more shots on goal and earning four corner-kicks, but the Falcons doubled their lead on their second shot of the game with 12 minutes remaining in the half. Bentley forward Gabby Vachon intercepted a Saint Anselm pass and took on her defender one-on-one before placing a shot into the right side-netting to put Bentley up, 2-0.
- With under 10 minutes left in the first half, Saint Anselm earned a free kick just outside the Bentley box. Fifth year captain Kathryn White (Georgetown, Mass.) curled a shot on frame that Ewen stopped. The rebound came out to junior Sydney Wnek (Haverhill, Mass.), but her shot from close range was also blocked by Ewen.
- Hawks freshman goalkeeper Maggie Warner (Saugus, Mass.) made her first save of the match with five minutes remaining in the opening frame, collecting a low shot on target from Gleason.
- Bentley withstood more Saint Anselm pressure early in the second half and found an insurance goal in the 60th minute. Jenna Hendriksen played a ball over the top of the Hawks defense that found Gleason, who chipped a shot past Warner to give Bentley a 3-0 lead.
- Saint Anselm finally cashed in on their first goal of the afternoon in the 77th minute. Hawks sophomore Zarina Pinto (Groveland, Mass.) served a beautiful ball into the Bentley box that had just enough distance to find her classmate, Livi Varetimos (Barnstable, Mass.), who volleyed a left-footed shot up and over the Falcons goalkeeper to cut the deficit to 3-1.
- The Hawks would earn a few more chances in the final minutes of the match, but the Falcons would hold on for the two-goal victory.
