FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Saint Anselm College women's soccer team ended their non-conference tilt against No.25 nationally-ranked Nova Southeastern University in a 1-1 draw on Sunday night. The Hawks are now 0-1-1 on the season with the tie against the Sharks.

  • The Hawks are on the road again for their next non-conference match against Bridgeport University on Friday, September 8th. The contest is set for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff in Bridgeport, Conn.

 HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Saint Anselm quickly got their offense going in the opening minutes of the first half with junior forward Josie Pecor (Williston, Vt.) forcing an early save from Sharks goalkeeper Stefane Rosa. At the 14:29 mark, junior Riley DiGilio dribbled down the right side of the field and crossed the ball into the box where senior captain Tara McCleary (Quincy, Mass.) was able to lace the ball into the back of the net, giving Saint Anselm a 1-0 advantage.
  • Senior Olivia Gotobed (North Andover, Mass.) almost found the back of the net in the 27th minute after ripping a low shot from outside the box that was saved by Rosa. A few minutes later, Saga Bjorling recorded the first shot attempt for Nova Southeastern that would end up going wide left of the goal.
  • Rosa made her fourth save of the half following a second shot from Gotobed at the 32:53 mark. With just under 10 minutes remaining in the first half, freshman goalkeeper Maggie Warner (Saugus, Mass.) made her first save of the night after Sofia Suarez tried to place the ball into the top left corner of the net.
  • Early in the second half, Nova Southeastern's Emma Brown received the first yellow card of the match. Six minutes later, Saint Anselm sophomore Nina Cuccovia (East Longmeadow, Mass.) was given a yellow card.
  • Nova Southeastern leveled the score in the 63rd minute after Luana Grabias laced the ball past a diving Warner to make it 1-1. The Sharks tallied two more shots toward the end of the second half, but the match would conclude in a 1-1 draw.
