Women's Soccer Tie, 0-0, Against the University of Bridgeport

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – The Saint Anselm College women's soccer team tied with the University of Bridgeport, 0-0, during a non-conference clash on Friday night. The Hawks are now 0-1-2 on the season with the draw against the Purple Knights.

  • The Hawks have a quick turnaround competing against Wilmington University on Sunday, September 10th in Wilmington, Del. The game is set for a 1:00 p.m. start time. 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Bridgeport's attack got momentum early winning a corner kick in the opening 10 minutes of the match. Junior Riley DiGilio (Danvers, Mass.) ripped the first shot on target for Saint Anselm at the 12:33 mark forcing a save by the Purple Knights goalkeeper Angelina Griva. A few minutes later, the Hawks offense started clicking with fifth-year captain Kathryn White (Georgetown, Mass.) recording a shot followed shortly by junior Josie Pecor (Williston, Vt.) firing a shot on goal that was collected by Griva.
  • Sophomore Emma Catanzarite (East Longmeadow, Mass.) tallied her first shot attempt of the season in the 34th minute of the half. Two minutes later, senior captain Tara McCleary (Quincy, Mass.) ripped a shot that would end up going high over the crossbar and out of play.
  • The Purple Knights began the second half with a shot in the opening minute by Tatianna Lizarraga that was blocked. Senior Olivia Gotobed (North Andover, Mass.) tested Griva at the 57:48 mark with her first shot of the game.
  • Freshman Maggie Warner (Saugus, Mass.) picked up her first save of the night after Kate Thill ripped a shot on target that Warner was able to deny. In the 68th minute, Wanrer faced another shot that she was able to collect to keep the score tied 0-0.
  • Junior Allison Silverstein (Concord, N.H.) had a late scoring chance for Saint Anselm in the 87th minute but her shot would go over the crossbar ending the game with a 0-0 final score.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Saint Anselm held a 9-8 edge on shots during the match while Bridgeport won the corner kick battle by a 6-1 margin.
  • Pecor, DiGilio, and Gotobed each registered one shot on goal for Saint Anselm. 
  • Warner, earning her third straight start in net for the Hawks, kept a clean sheet after making three saves.
