HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Saint Rose started the scoring just over two minutes into the match when Joao Amaral worked his way into the Saint Anselm box and served a cross back to teammate Daniele Bottazzo, who fired a shot into the back of the net.
  • Saint Anselm earned two good scoring opportunities in the following minutes, first when senior Josue Assantha (Bukavu, Democratic Republic of the Congo) found himself open at the top of the box, but his shot was sent over the bar. The second Hawks chance came when sophomore Estevão Gouveia (Nashua, N.H.) settled a loose ball inside the box and turned his defender before getting his shot blocked right in front of goal.
  • The Golden Knights doubled their lead just over a dozen minutes into the match when Hilmar Halldorsson received a feed from Nick Koenig and blasted a shot into the lower left corner of the goal to put Saint Rose ahead, 2-0.
  • The Hawks controlled most of the possession for the remainder of the first half and had several free kicks in the attacking third, but would head into halftime facing a two goal deficit.
  • In the opening minutes of the second half, junior Lucas Bravo Ollé (Sitges, Barcelona, Spain) stole the ball in the final third, dribbled past multiple defenders, and found his teammate Gouveia cutting into the box, but the forward's shot was once again blocked by the Saint Rose defense.
  • The Golden Knights nearly found their third goal of the game when Jose Clemente broke free on a counter-attack, but his effort just missed the lower right corner. Clemente had another shot from inside the box in the 64th minute that just missed the top right corner.
  • Saint Anselm senior goalkeeper Alejandro Correal (Bogotá, Colombia), who replaced starting goalkeeper and sophomore David Hood (Manchester, N.H.) in the second half, would deny Clemente from point blank range with just under ten minutes remaining in the contest for his first save of the match.
  • The Hawks did not earn many quality scoring chances in the final half hour of the match and would fall by a final score of 2-0.
