HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • There was no shortage of action from either side despite a scoreless contest. Saint Anselm earned several chances in the opening 15 minutes. In the ninth minute, junior Andrew Kubinski (Norton, Mass.) worked his way down the right wing and clipped a pass ahead to senior Zach Verow (Bedford, N.H.), who one-timed a shot wide. In the 13th minute, sophomore Estevão Gouveia (Nashua, N.H.) set himself up for a good look from the top of the box, but his shot was saved by Assumption goalkeeper Iver Sjavag.
  • The action settled down in the middle segment of the opening half before picking up during the final fifteen minutes. The Greyhounds forced Hawks goalkeeper David Hood (Manchester, N.H.) to get involved in the game, serving in several crosses that the sophomore came off his line to collect.
  • With 12 minutes to go in the first half, junior Caden Leader (Durham, N.H.), who came on earlier as a substitute, fired a dangerous looking shot that ended up sailing high. Leader was again involved in another scoring chance with three minutes remaining, setting up junior Aiden Lehane (Assonet, Mass.) with a shot inside the box that was blocked by a Greyhound defender.
  • Assumption would also come close to finding a goal in the closing minutes of the half when Jorgo Karamelo beat a couple Saint Anselm defenders down the right wing. However, his cross was snagged by Hood.
  • Hawks freshman Jake McCabe (Canton, Mass.), who also entered the game off the bench, gave his side an energy jolt when he put his skill-set on display by getting past a Greyhound defender with a beautiful hesitation move, but his shot hit the outside netting of the goal.
  • To open the second half, Assumption created several scoring opportunities on the counter attack. Saint Anselm looked to be beaten in the back when the Greyhounds headed towards goal in a two-on-none breakaway. Assumption's Jan Siegel opted to take the shot himself rather than lay it off to his open teammate and his shot was denied by senior goalkeeper Alejandro Correal (Canton, Mass.), who entered the game at halftime.
  • The Greyhounds looked to have broken the scoreless drought with 32 minutes remaining, but their goal was called back for an offside whistle.
  • Assumption continued to apply pressure with several corner-kicks and set pieces in the attacking third, but could not find the back of the net. Greyhounds forward Johannes Sundgot got the final shot on goal of the match after a long run from just across the midfield stripe, but it was collected by Correal with ten minutes to go.
  • Both sides would float in dangerous balls into the opposition's boxes in the final moments, but neither team would score as the game ended in a scoreless tie.
