No. 11 men's lacrosse soars to 17-7 win over Franklin Pierce

RINDGE, N.H. – The nationally-ranked Saint Anselm College men's lacrosse team used a strong start to post a 17-7 win at Franklin Pierce University in Northeast-10 Conference action on Wednesday.

With the win, the Hawks, who are ranked 11th in the most recent United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Division II National Poll, improved to 5-2 on the season with a 4-2 record in NE10 play. The Ravens drop to 4-4 overall and 1-3 in conference contests.

Senior Jack Andrews (Cumberland, R.I.) led the Hawks offense with four goals in the contest while senior Jack Robinson (Wilbraham, Mass.), junior Chase Lilly (Trumbull, Conn.), junior Noah Larsen (Northborough, Mass.), sophomore Joe Lombardi (Holliston, Mass.), and freshman Charlie Dean (North Andover, Mass.) all potted two goals apiece.

Robinson and Larsen dished out four assists each to go with their two goals to tie for a game-high with six points on the day.

The Hawks opened the scoring with a goal at 11:32 of the first quarter from the stick of sophomore Colin Mulvey (Reading, Mass.). Saint Anselm added a second goal just 41 seconds later on the first goal of the game for Larsen.

Saint Anselm would lead by a 5-0 score following a man-up goal from Lilly at 5:23. Franklin Pierce netted its first goal of the game with 2:12 left in the first quarter from Sean Daly, which pushed the score to 5-1 through the opening 15 minutes of play, in favor of the Hawks.

After a goal from Conor Rooney to open the second quarter, the Hawks would score four in the frame including two goals in the final minute from Andrews and Lombardi to push the lead to 9-2 at the break.

Robinson and Andrews combined to give the Hawks an 11-2 advantage less than 1:30 into the third quarter. After a goal by Daly, Saint Anselm netted three consecutive goals to push the lead to double digits at 14-3. Dean got that three goal spurt started with the second goal of his collegiate career.

The sides would post three goals each in the fourth quarter as the Hawks came away with the 17-7 conference win.

Senior David Olsen (Salem, N.H.) collected his fifth win of the season from the Saint Anselm goal. Olsen stopped eight shots on goal in just over three quarters of action.

Saint Anselm held a 41-32 advantage in shot attempts including a 27-15 edge in shots on goal. Senior Craig Yannone (Lynnfield, Mass.) led Hawks with 17 faceoff wins as Saint Anselm posted 20 wins from the faceoff "X".

Yannone also scooped up a game-high 13 ground balls while junior Jonathan Holland (Derry, N.H.) caused two turnovers.

The Hawks netted eight goals in 11 extra-man opportunities, setting a new program record for most extra-man goals in a single game.

The Hawks will be back in action on Tuesday, Apr. 11 when they host American International College from Grappone Stadium, starting at 4 p.m.
