MANCHESTER, N.H. – The No. 10 Saint Anselm College men's lacrosse team raced out to an early first quarter lead and never looked back as they downed American International College by a 23-2 score in Northeast-10 Conference action on Tuesday.
With the win, the Hawks, who are ranked 10th in the most recent United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Division II Men's Lacrosse National Poll, improve to 6-2 on the season with a 5-2 in conference play. The Yellow Jackets drop to 2-10 overall and 0-7 in conference contests.
Seniors
Jack Robinson (Wilbraham, Mass.) and
Will Kezerian (Melrose, Mass.) and freshmen
Brendan Crowley (Leicester, Mass.) and
Maverick Lyon (Albany, Ore.) led the Hawks offense with three goals apiece.
Junior
Chase Lilly (Trumbull, Conn.) led all student-athletes with three assists and in points with five. Freshmen
Jared Leonard (Rowley, Mass.) and
Charlie Dean (North Andover, Mass.) were credited with two helpers each.
Senior
Jack Andrews (Cumberland, R.I.) and freshman
Chris Claflin (Newton, Mass.) gave the Hawks a 2-0 lead with 10:58 remaining in the first quarter.
Dylan Seymour responded with a goal for the Yellow Jackets just 45 seconds later to push the score to 2-1.
Robinson, junior
Noah Larsen (Northborough, Mass.), and Kezerian combined for four goals to close out the first quarter, giving the Hawks a 6-1 lead through the opening 15 minutes of play.
The Hawks would score the next six goals to open the second quarter before
Jason Vickery snapped a 10-goal run for Saint Anselm with 1:26 left in the half. Claflin and Crowley netted one goal each in the final minute of the second quarter to give the Hawks a 14-2 lead at the break.
Saint Anselm added seven goals in the third quarter from the crosses of sophomore
Joe Lombardi (Holliston, Mass.), senior
Callen Willwerth (Northborough, Mass.), Kezerian, and Crowley, extending the lead to 21-2.
Lyon and sophomore
John Colitz (Warwick, R.I.) added goals in the fourth, pushing the score to its final of 23-2.
In the contest, Crowley netted his first collegiate goal and point while sophomores
Tyler Marshall (Needham, Mass.) and
Ryan Mulhern (Pembroke, Mass.) each recorded their first career assists in the contest.
Senior
David Olsen (Salem, N.H.) collected the win in the contest, making two saves on four shots on goal in the first half. Junior
Anthony Kubik (Chicago, Ill.) and senior
Will Davis (Franklin, Mass.) split time in the second half, combining for seven saves in the 30 minutes of action.
Senior
Craig Yannone (Lynnfield, Mass.) won 13-of-16 faceoffs and collected a game-high 12 ground balls in the contest. Freshman
Quinn Gannon (Scituate, Mass.) was nine-for-12 from the faceoff "X" and grabbed four ground balls.
11 Saint Anselm student-athletes were credited with one caused turnover each.
The Hawks will be back in action on Saturday, Apr. 15 with an NE10 battle at Saint Michael's College, slated for a 7 p.m. start.
