Baseball downed by Bentley in NE10 twinbill

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College baseball team suffered a pair of Northeast-10 Conference Northeast Division contests to Bentley University on Friday, Apr. 28.

The Hawks drop to 10-31 on the season with a 6-13 record in conference contests while the Falcons improve to 19-18 and 8-11 in NE10 play. The teams wrap up their four-game series on Saturday, Apr. 29 with a 10:30 a.m. first pitch. Prior to the start of the contest, Saint Anselm will honor its Class of 2023 with a pregame Senior Day ceremony.

Senior Mike Borrelli (Salisbury, Mass.) was five-for-seven on the day at the plate with one home run and five runs batted in. Sophomore Ryan Scialabba (Cheshire, Conn.), senior Mike Pierro (North Andover, Mass.), and junior Richie Williams (Georgetown, Mass.) all registered two hits apiece in the twinbill.

Junior Dallas Vaughan (Haverhill, Mass.) suffered the loss in game one after allowing just two runs on five hits in a seven-game complete game effort. Senior Taylor French (Goffstown, N.H.) was issued the loss in game two with sophomore Adam Betty (Lowell, Mass.) and senior Mark Monahan (Quincy, Mass.) seeing action in the contest.

GAME ONE: Bentley 2, Saint Anselm 1

The Falcons got runners on first and second with no outs in the top of the second but Vaughan managed to pick off the runner on second before rolling a double play ball to get out of the inning.

After reaching on a hit by pitch, senior Brady Doran (Seneca, S.C.) would steal second and advanced to third on a fly out. However, he would be stranded on third as a fly out got the visitors out of the trouble.

Bentley would take the lead in the top of the fifth inning on a two-run home run from Eddy Beauregard. Steve Rizzuto singled with one out before reaching second on a ground out.

In search of at least one run to extend the game, the Hawks would get runners on first and second on walks from junior Zack Clough (Newbury, Mass.) and senior Matt Collins (Beverly, Mass.). However, the Falcons closed the contest with a pop up, closing game one by a 2-1 score.

GAME TWO: Bentley 18, Saint Anselm 5
