MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College baseball team suffered a 9-8 loss to Bentley University on Thursday, Apr. 27 to open a four-game Northeast-10 Conference Northeast Division series from Sullivan Park.
The Hawks drop to 10-29 on the season with a 6-11 record in NE10 contests while the Falcons improve to 17-18 overall and 6-11 in conference games. The teams will play a pair of seven-inning contests on Friday, Apr. 28 with game one slated for a 12 p.m. first pitch.

Matt Collins (Beverly, Mass.), junior
Richie Williams (Georgetown, Mass.), senior
Brady Doran (Seneca, S.C.), senior
Mike Pierro (North Andover, Mass.), and senior
Will Panarello (Barrington, R.I.) all registered two hits apiece in the contest, which were tied for a game-high.
Collins recorded three runs batted in which was the most in the game with senior
Mike Borrelli (Salisbury, Mass.) and sophomore
Ryan Scialabba (Cheshire, Conn.) driving in two apiece.
Junior
Matthew Michel (Haverhill, Mass.) started the game on the mound for the Hawks and received a no decision after going 4.2 innings. Senior
John Donovan (Lowell, Mass.) came on in relief and allowed just one run in 2.1 innings of work. Graduate student
Shawn Morrow (Melrose, Mass.) suffered the loss after conceding one run on two hits in 2.0 innings of work.
Back-to-back doubles from Doran and Borrelli pushed across the game's opening run in the bottom of the first inning, giving the Hawks a 1-0 lead.
Saint Anselm loaded the bases in the bottom of the second but a fly out got Bentley out of the jam.
After a leadoff single and a stolen base from Pierro, Panarello registered a one-out double to push the Hawks lead to two at 2-0.
The Falcons struck for seven runs in the top of the fifth inning.
Brian Lindsay led off with a single and after two fly outs,
Kyle Halloran worked a walk before
Tommy Bolton singled home the first run of the game for the Falcons.
After a walk loaded the bases, a hit by pitch tied the score at two before a double from
Stan DeMartinis III brought home two runs.
Steve Rizzuto followed with a two-run single before Lindsay capped the scoring in the inning with an RBI single, giving the Falcons a 7-2 lead headed to the bottom of the fifth.
Saint Anselm got a pair of runs back in the bottom half of the frame on a two-run double from Scialabba. Williams led off with a double before Borrelli reach on a walk which forced a pitching change out of Bentley and on the first pitch thrown by
Connor Gileau, Scialabba sent a double to right center field.
The Hawks scratched across a fifth run in the bottom of the sixth inning on an RBI ground out from Borrelli, scoring Collins who opened the inning with a walk.
Saint Anselm regained the lead in the bottom of the seventh on a three-run home run from Collins. Pierro and Clough reached earlier in the inning via a walk and a single before scoring on the sixth big fly of the season for Collins.
After a leadoff walk opened the eighth,
Eddy Beauregard homered to left field to put the Falcons back in front, 9-8.
Searching for one run to force extra innings, the Hawks would get a runner on base but a pick off followed by a strike out and a ground out closed game one for the Falcons, 9-8.
