PREVIEW: No. 17 women's lacrosse concludes regular season at No. 15 Bentley, against RV Saint Rose

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The nationally-ranked Saint Anselm College women's lacrosse team has a pair of contests in its final week of the 2023 regular season.

The Hawks will head to Bentley University on Wednesday, Apr. 26 before concluding the regular season against The College of Saint Rose on Saturday, Apr. 29. Prior to the start of the contest with Golden Knights, the Hawks will honor their seven-member Class of 2023 with a pregame Senior Day ceremony.

The Hawks improved to 11-3 on the season with a 7-3 record in Northeast-10 Conference play with a 15-13 win over nationally-ranked University of New Haven. Following the Senior Day contest with the Golden Knights, Saint Anselm will be playing in the First Round of the NE10 postseason tournament which will be on Tuesday, May 2. Details surrounding that contest are too be determined.

The Falcons suffered a 13-10 loss to Le Moyne College on Apr. 26, moving the team to 9-5 on the season with a 7-3 mark against the NE10. After hosting the Hawks, Bentley will head to New Haven on Saturday, Apr. 29 to conclude its regular season.

The Golden Knights own a 7-8 record with a 3-7 mark against the NE10. Saint Rose will host American International College on Wednesday, Apr. 26 before making the trip to the Granite State for its regular season finale.

Saint Anselm will honor seniors Taylor Cobain (East Greenwich, R.I.), Meghan Cotraro (Beverly, Mass.), Annabelle Harrington (Tyngsborough, Mass.), Quinn O'Rourke (Falmouth, Mass.), Lexi Palmisano (Woburn, Mass.), Ellie Richards (Reading, Mass.), and Julia Silk (North Andover, Mass.) prior to the start of Saturday's contest.

HAWKS NOTES
  • Saint Anselm stayed put at No. 17 in Monday's edition of the ILWomen/IWLCA Division II Women's Lacrosse National Poll.
  • Junior Jess Sullivan (Wrentham, Mass.) was named the USA Lacrosse Magazine Division II National Women's Lacrosse Player of the Week on Tuesday, just one day after collecting her first career NE10 Player of the Week.
  • Sullivan leads the Hawks with 42 goals and in points with 67 while ranking second on the squad with 25 assists. Compared to the rest of the NE10, Sullivan is 10th in goals scored, tied for fifth in assists, and sixth in points.
  • Sullivan needs just eight goals to reach 100 for her collegiate career. Her 92 career goals are good for 14th, at the time of writing, in team annals.
  • Cobain is fourth on the Hawks roster with 29 goals while ranking first in assists with 31, totaling 60 points which is good for second on the squad. Cobain ranks third in the conference in assists.
  • Cobain needs just two goals to reach 100 for her collegiate career as she sits on 98 in her time on the Hilltop. Cobain and Sullivan would become the 12th and 13th student-athletes in program history to reach 100 career goals.
  • Palmisano is second on the Hawks roster with 41 goals while ranking third in both assists (10) and points (51). The senior leads Saint Anselm and ranks fourth in the conference with 79 draw controls.
  • Junior Alison Ferullo (North Andover, Mass.) is third on the squad with 37 goals scored.
  • Junior Erin Doyle (Weymouth, Mass.) leads Saint Anselm with 33 ground balls while ranking second on the team in draw controls at 62. Doyle is third on the Hawks roster with 17 caused turnovers, trailing Palmisano (19) and Ferullo (18) for the top spots on the team.
  • Sophomore Elizabeth Driscoll (Marblehead, Mass.) holds the top save percentage in the conference at 0.537. The sophomore is third in the conference with an 8.88 goals-against average and is fourth with a total of 131 saves.
SCOUTING BENTLEY
  • The Falcons came in at No. 15 in Monday's ILWomen/IWLCA Division II Women's Lacrosse National Poll.
  • Ashlee Wargo was named the IWLCA Division II National Defensive Player of the Week and the NE10 Goalkeeper of the Week on earlier this week.
  • Wargo has started in 13 games this season for the Falcons. She owns a 0.397 save percentage and a 12.35 goals-against average, totaling 108 saves this season.
  • Maeve Johnson leads the Bentley offense with 52 points coming from a team-high 39 goals. Johnson is one of three student-athletes with 13 assists this season, which leads the team.
  • Joining Johnson in a tie for the team lead in assists is Courtney Dermody and Abby Jowett.
  • Amanda Davis and Kenzie Lupton are second and third on the Bentley roster with 31 and 30 goals apiece.
  • Caroline Affolter holds the top spot on the team in ground balls (27) and draw controls (60).
  • Sydney Lynch and Kathryn Slattery are tied for the team lead with 16 caused turnovers each.
SCOUTING SAINT ROSE
  • The Golden Knights are receiving votes in Monday's release of the ILWomen/IWLCA Division II Women's Lacrosse National Poll.
  • Lauren Pendergast is tied for seventh in the conference with 45 goals scored this season. She leads Saint Rose in that category and is second in assists at 14, bringing her to a team-high 59 points.
  • Daria Bock ranks second on the team in goals (33) and points (46) while ranking third in assists (13).
  • Ashley Burns is the Golden Knights leader in assists with 17. She has added 19 goals to bring her to 36 points which are third most on the team.
  • Katy McPeak is the Saint Rose leader with 52 ground balls and 26 caused turnovers while Bock has grabbed a team-high 100 draw controls, which are tied for the most in the conference.
  • Dorothy Gaffney has started in all 15 games for the Saint Rose. She owns a 13.92 goals-against average and a 0.357 save percentage. She has made 95 saves this season.
ALL-TIME vs. BENTLEY, SAINT ROSE
  • Saint Anselm and Bentley have battled 27 times in the all-times series. The Falcons enjoy a 24-3 record against the Hawks in women's lacrosse.
  • The Falcons collected a 9-8 win from Grappone Stadium on Apr. 27, 2022, marking the most recent meeting between the two programs.
  • Saint Anselm and Saint Rose met for the first time on Apr. 30, 2022 with the Golden Knights taking the contest by a 13-12 score in overtime.
